    "The big thing, in terms of the increase we're paying at the pump, is not the price of crude oil," said James Williams, president of industry analyst WTRG Economics. "It's the difference between the price of crude and what refineries are producing gasoline for today."

      Interesting info. It tells me two things. I'm glad my business isn't retail sales of gasoline and I'm very glad that here in Boston with such good public transportation and so many necessary services within walking distance, I only have to drive about 25 or 30 miles a month.

              I do not believe any of this refinery Crap.,Greed is the cause of high Gas prices.,So i would not give the big oil company a second thought as to being concerned about the public perception of this refinery mess,.

                Oh sure, blame the victims. The reason why gas prices are so high is related to greed period.

                  There are two simple things the Feds could do to lower gas prices without messing with the free market:

                  1. Pass a federal law authorizing the construction of new refineries without state or local interference. It currently takes 7 years to get all state or local permits and current capacity covers only 85% of US demand.

                  2. Amend the clean air act to simplify the bewildering number of gasoline formulations. In particular for regions without smog, USA should use the same gasoline most of the rest of the world does, and all areas with smog should be required to use one single formulation. This will overnight drop the price of imported gasoline by 20% and US refineries will have to drop their prices to match.

                    The U.S. has built itself into a strucural dependence on gasoline - the infrasture investments over the past 60 years have almost all been in supporting the internal combustion engine, and the transportation of all goods and people (labor) using that one system.

                    Once more, the stupid will learn WHY it has always been true - "Don't put all your eggs in the same basket."

                        No one is running out of gas. I notice a lot of stations Lukoil only has regular gas sometimes. I guess it is only a matter of time before the gas companies become too greedy and all of us will be walking.

                                  Sounds like a bunch of baloney. The reason gas prices are high is because Bush and his group of evil doers have allowed the gas companies, another bunch of evil doers to gouge people for as much as they want. Look at their record profits. Our government cares about one thing, and that is satisfying the people who pay bribes so that they can hold office. They don't care about the people voting. They care about the ones giving them bribes, like big oil.

                                    The bottom line is that Big Oil has and is using desensitization techniques with gas pricing. Obviously

                                    the Bush MisAdministration sides with Big Oil.

                                      The very reason of gas hikes is this fellow and his company ,who decided to be an other Julius Cesar or still in "boys age" games,if you don't know who am I thinking of You must not live in our country for at least 7 years,"him & company" are using our resources for they pleasure of boysplay like games but with really huge "toys"and they need a gas like hippopotamus needs a water it's free so "he just drink it,well...somebody have to pay for his thirst. Do you know" mysunshines" how much take a gas.../think of by yourself what kind of toys..? it's that simple,right???

                                          NeoCon has a point, a good one. The price of everything else has risen, not because of gas prices (I know it takes gas to transport them), but because of labor costs. People who work for a living like wage increases, yearly if possible. But the real problem that gas prices hurt so much is that we refuse to budget for them. Heck, when I was a teenager, gas was 25 cents a gallon. But there's no going back to those prices. We won't find $1 gas again either. We may not like the price we pay for gas, but the rest of the world (with a very few exceptions) pays a lot more. The only upside to the U.S. consuming as much gas as we do is that we get a volume discount on the oil. Even then, prices are higher than we'd like. When I look around on the roads, there are still loads of pickups and SUVs, which most people don't need, with one person inside, going way too fast, consuming way too much fuel. We do what we want and don't budget, so we whine about it. It's the American Way!!

                                            Gas pricing, shortages, costs, and any other information about the cost of gas is unknown. Any and all information is supplied by the oil companies and none of it can be verified or supported with facts. Who's telling the truth and who's telling the lies? Oil companies can't be investigated or audited and all figures come from the oil companies. The only figures that can be verified is the cost of imported crude oil. Cost of domesticaly produced oil is unknown, real cost of exploration and drilling is unknown, profit is an unknown, demand is unknown. Oil companies have complete control of market supply and demand and are not accountable to any government agency or the public. Oil companies don't have to divulge any information about their company operations and cost of operating them. The government as well as the public is completely in the dark with misinformation and no data or facts to make even an educated guess in the pricing of gas. Is there something wrong with this picture?

                                                  the problem is as follows;

                                                  The government allows up to 18 boutique formulations of gas ( thanks epa for limiting them) This doesnt allow for the anual spring refinery fires/shutdowns ( amazing how those fires happen every year at this time). So if the midwest refinery(s) are shut down , no one else can make "that gas" because they are making something else ( isnt that special?). This has been going on for years ( yes even before Bush) Both sides of th aisle profit hardily from the petroleum lobby , that is why we are getting raped plain and simple
