Evangelicals and Creation Care »

.. it seems to me that those who resist creation care sometimes are motivated by a misreading of scripture. He goes on to name three other factors that have led to this conservative opposition to protecting our earth: a "profound mishandling of science," an "inordinate loyalty to laissez-faire capitalism," and an "inordinat

Let us unmask right wing evangelicals for what they are: they are another PAC and they are not about what they say they are (seriousness of Bible scripture and orthodoxy). They misread the bible for their purposes. They take the TEXT out of CONTEXT for a PRETEXT.

Since according to the bible Man is not to know the time of the end, we should stop assuming the time is near and take care of what we have.

Of course I'm an athiest so I guess my oppinion doesn't really count!

The Bible warns us about the people who will try to deceive us!

Our religious leaders should focus on teaching by example, the whole truth and the Bible, leaving the people to their free-will to search for the truth, to discuss, to understand, believe and follow God's teachings! Sometimes mankind has to learn the hardway, by trial and error!

I also think that for a lot of churches it's about bringing in new members. The result is the flock that has been there awhile is not being taken care of, not being feed, needs not being met, among other things. So they either leave and find a new church that takes care of all of its members, hopefully stays and tries to make changes or suffers in silence. I for one am glad that there is a change happening, for the better, with regards to the environment. I do believe there are businesses out there that do care about the environment and despite the new regulations are holding themselves to a higher standard and are taking care of the environment. They should be commended, supported and held as shining examples. Yes businesses have done horrible things but there have been businesses that have done good things. We will need the help of those businesses that want to make changes now for clean water, protection of wetlands, less pollution, greener energy.

It is a NO BRAINER that anyone - everyone - that believes in the God of the Old and New Testament Bible would know that they have been given the charge by GOD take care of the planet.

Earth IS God's creation - God also gave man "dominion" over the earth and all things on/in it. This MANDATES the responsibility of the 'health' of this planet to MAN by GOD.

It is mind-boggling that anyone who claims to be a Christian would come up with any sort of 'excuse' to NOT be responsible for our earth!

Forcing Fundamentalism into science classes was GREAT!

Now it's "the theory of Christianity."

Planting Christians into Nasa to block scientific data from the world was evil.

Beating gays to death out of hatred on American city streets is evil.

Praying for World War III (like Pat Robertson) is evil.

Saying the 9-11 victims deserved to die because of gays (Reverend Jerry Falwell) is evil.

Saying those who don't believe in the same "Giant White Man In the Sky" as you do means "they are lower than animals and don't deserve decency or even to live," is evil.

That clip showed on FoxNews in 1996 of a football field in middle America full of Fundamentalist Christians shouting "Death to Clinton" was EVIL.

Christian backed white supremacy is evil.

                So-

A group of science students "put the Bible under the microscope" and found man so many discrepancies that either it's the writings of man or God's memory sucks. In scripture, the disciples all report seeing the resurrected Jesus at very different times, etc.

There are actually whole sites dedicated to this subject.

Fundamentalist Christians have done more to drive people from Christianity than all the atheists in history.

                God Bless America.

Actually, this does not suprise me. Humans are able to believe anything they want to. A normal human trait is a strong resistance to change. Their minds are (like a child's) more than willing make whatever adjustments are necessary to preserve their laziness and comfort. Until they really see global warming with their own eyes, I don't think there is hope for them. (We may have to move on without them, or else it will be too late to save planet/mankind)

Atheists like to point out how Christians seem to have no thought or concern for the planet due to believing that the world will someday end. But, they fail to take into account that atheistic countries like the former Soviet Union, East Germany, and present day China (which created, and continue to create a LOT of pollution), help keep the belief going that the world will end in the minds of many Christians.

Oh, by the way, a museum with Raptors munching on leaves in the Garden of Eden? Cute. Christians seem to ignore the fact that, right in the beginning of Genesis, God commands the newly created creatures to "replenish the earth". Oh, but it means "fill". Hey, sounds like "start over" to me. Of course, Job DOES talk about a creature that sounds pretty apatosaurish, I must say.

I wonder how an Evangelical would reconcile the "Go forth and multiply!" command with the available evidence that Global warming is due to "human activities"....? Should we tackle the "multiplication"-part AND improve our medical care, put an end to warfare, develop anti-hurricane and other climatological warningshields, restrict the right to abortion, and determine that marriage exists ONLY between a biological male and female?

Creation Care should indeed be one of the main tenets for all, be they religious or not. Creation Care is just another word for stewardship. We all need to care about our world and make it a decent place to live. The problem is that there are too many ME people and not enough WE people.
