I am taken back to Lt Calley and the Melai massacre. Not to say one way or the other as to the truth of this case, but the effect clearly destroys any chance that the US will come out as anything other than a heavy handed occupier rather than a liberator.

If it is true, then I am sure all patriots agree, let them fry in order to restore SOME legitimacy.

I'll say this, if some occuping force killed members of my family just because they wanted payback for something they didn't do, I'd join the insurgents.

And people here wonder why they hate us.

If the actions taken by these soldiers is found to be true, then they must be punished. The killing of innocent civilians is not to be tolerated. But where was the leadership? Why aren't they on trial also?

Bush should pardon them when he leaves office.

AbuAmirah, I agree wholeheartedly. This is the portion of the story that so many Americans forget. How would you feel if the shoe were on the other foot. That's why this whole wrongheaded occupation is nothing but a recruiting opportunity for terrorists.

We did so many things wrong in the Iraq invasion (not the least of which is launching it before the UN Inspectors had a chance to finish their work and report definitively that there were no WMDs or Nukes -- therefore no need to invade Iraq to start with) that it is difficult to even think in terms of one particular screw-up that transcends the rest.
