Supporters say the program, approved by the Board of Aldermen and believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, will help safeguard the city's estimated 15,000 illegal immigrants. If they can open bank accounts, immigrants will be less likely to carry large amounts of cash, a practice that makes them easy targets for robbers

What am I missing here, if what I keep seeing and being told, that illegal immigrants come here to do the jobs Americans won't do, because the illegals will work for such low wages. And I also here illegal immigrants will never be able to pay the fines they would have to if this new "immigration reform" bill passes.. How is it they have these large amounts of cash that they're carrying arouind and that they need to keep safe in banks?

And isn't issuing ID cards aiding a criminal in commission of a crime and in direct violation of existing law?

This is just crazy. How can you approve things for illegals out side approving the use of force when breaking down the door and sending them back to their own country and make them sign up like every one else and get in legally.

This is basically saying its ok to allow "ILLEGAL" immigrants in your city, and keeping them safe from the "real criminals" I suppose?

Whats next? I mean honestly, when we start supporting breaking the law, whats to stop every one from breaking the law then saying "well they get supported in breaking the law".... Its just ridiculous. Its one thing if you don't agree with laws. But its another to be in office and supposably uphold the laws, and doing the exact opposite.

I swear some of our politicians are so corrupt its unbelievable. They'll do any thing to spite the opposition.

And when you look at a list of "sanctuary cities" nearly all of them are democratic liberals. Go figure.

America is heading for a major civil war, once these illegals figure out that it has been our laws we once had that protected the American workers. It is America's enforcement of laws that has made us a democracy & a place to improve the quality of life.

These cities leaders who are aiding and abedding in breaking our laws, will be scratching their heads, wondering what went wrong, when these now illegals become disappointed in their wages & benefits in the future and they take to the streets to protest lack of living wages & lack of healthcare/benefits, (like many American people are experiencing today).

Right now I know some senior citizens who have less than $1,000 a month in income, but yet they only qualify for $10.00 a month in food stamps. These people are American citizens. This is just not right!

This issue is going to be the downfall of our nation. This is a bipartisan issues and a hot button issue for sure. If you aren't writing all those that voted for it, your local reps and the white house to tell them your displeasure this will pass. Our politicians are sneaking this one by us. They seemed to be bunch of mindless, greedy, prima donnas that have only self interests at heart. http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/

All I can do is shake my head in disbelief. The voters of that city deserve what they will get from this. More and more Illeagal immigrants will be there soon enough. Standing outside Home Depot, pouncing like vultures on anyone foolish enough to hire one! And just think, if this immigration bill passes, they won't be Illeagal anymore! I only hope that they remain working in the shadows. Build the Damn fence! It is mandated by Law!

Zaph, good find, but I wish you had changed the Forbes title to identify the "city." Not until the fourth paragraph in the article do we learn that the city is New Haven.
