Posted by: populist 2 years, 7 months ago

To all of you who gave your all in WWII, our gratitude for your service; our thanks for the protection of our rights from those who wished an end to them. Because this was the beginning of the beginning of the end of the Nazi horror, I thought I would share with you a review of a very special and unique book concerning those and the post-war years

Thanks pop, for this article, it was great!

My father was in the Army during WWII, after he passed away, I found a package of his military post cards with pics of Belgium, etc., that he had never used and some of his military units pics, even found a few pics of him overseas. In later years my father said that the war was too difficult for him to talk about very much!

I often wondered how his experiences during the war, changed who he was as a person?

May God, Allah, Buddah, or whatever you may believe in, bless each and every soldier who gave their life or served to give each of us the right to say what we want.

All the arguments, bashing, " I am right and your are an idiot" comments are our freedom because of these people...remember that even if you disagree with war, conflict, actions...you get the picture.

There will never be peace, love, agreement in this world..learn to accept that and be thankful if you live in a country with a mighty military to defend that right.

My heart goes out to all my fallen comrades and their loved ones. Peace be yours.

If you have ever seen the grave site of these fallen soldiers who were there on D-Day. Well if you are not moved you have no heart.

To qoute an ex German Corpal who was manning one of the many FG-42's in the bunkers. "It was amazing, they could see the first wave was struck down. And yet they kept coming."

This qoute was from D-Day to Berlin. Shown today on the History Channel. It was very moving cause he knew that we(the U.S) along with the Brits, Canadians and Ausies were not going to stop hitting the beaches.

D-Day was the telling resolve that Hitler was going to be stopped. I wont get into the rest of this doco, watch it for yourself. Look at the faces of the soldiers that are forvever with us on those few fragments of film. And know they were tired, hungry and wanted to be home. But they kept fighting on.

This is the only posting I saw today about D Day.

This was the last truly heroric war for the United States, because we were truly united- every family had someone in the effort & funny thing - liberals & conservatives fought a common enemy shoulder to shoulder, the also died together & it's their deaths we should commemerate & remember the great nation America can be..... if only....

I usually don't care if someone gives my comment a neg - but Blackbeard by negging a comment such as this it just proves what a moral idiot you are

Today I visit with an elderly lady who is one of my dearest friends, visiting from Switzerland here. She was a young teenager during WW2 in nazi Germany (she has been a Swiss citizen for more then 50 yrs now, she said at first, 'I hated the Americans (she hated Hitler too) because they were bombing her home, but soon realized that they were trying to get rid of the nazis and also free Germany-and how horrible it was that soldiers from many different countries had to die.' She knew some English back then and would help the American soldiers with talking to people. Listening to those stories are so...I don't know it really can choke you up. Too soon all those people will be gone :-( to tell their stories.

My Grandfather was one of the bomber pilots that DID bomb her city.Sometimes it's an amazingly small world.

So I get a few stories from both sides of the coin. How many millions suffered from all over the world and made great sacrifices. It truly was for a great cause.
