VP Cheney blocked the promotion of a Justice Dept official involved in a bedside standoff over Bush's eavesdropping program, a Senate committee learned Wed. In a written account, former Deputy AG James Comey said Cheney warned AG Alberto Gonzales that he would oppose the promotion of a dept official who once threatened to resign over the program.

Gonzales eventually decided against trying to promote Patrick Philbin to principal deputy solicitor general, Comey said.

This administration is absolutely despicable. Every week it's a new scandal. I'm very ashamed of America for putting thes traitors into office, not once but twice. I thought people in this country were smarter than that. I was wrong.
