What's Faith Got to Do With It? »
Posted by: stephen-johnson 2 years, 6 months agoBy Cal Thomas - Most of this God-talk by politicians is irrelevant. We're not electing a theologian, but a president. There are many moral and godly people in my church who I would trust with my wife, but with possibly one exception, not the country. Competence, not ideology or religiosity, should be primary in this election.

June 7, 2007, 11:23 a.m.From the article:
"In the Democratic forum, neither questioners nor candidates suggested that individuals bear primary responsibility for their lives and that government policy should be directed toward fostering personal responsibility and accountability for wrong decisions as an incentive for making right ones.
The Apostle Paul said, "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." (2 Thessalonians 3:10). The threat of an empty stomach is the best incentive for providing for one's self. Government should serve as a last resort, helping the truly needy, not as a first resource subsidizing laziness and wrong decisions."

June 7, 2007, 12:16 p.m.Cal Thomas is a disingenous piece of crap. In the mid 1980s he was one of the LOUDEST propagators of "Born Again Christians should get involved with government and take it over" to bring "morality" to it.
Now that the Neocon revolution has been shown to be corrupt, fascist, and a liability, they back away from it, lying that they didn't generate it in the first place.
Cal Thomas is the same kind of scum as Falwell. And will sit next to him in Hell at the right hand of Satan.

June 8, 2007, 7:02 a.m.Cal Thomas is preaching for commpetence above all? His body of work clearly suggests the opposite: he toes the party line with preference given to those who share his religious convictions.

June 8, 2007, 10:09 a.m.You say "What's faith do to do with it ? "
EVERYTHING I SAY.
you don't want someone in office who doesn't have faith in GOD.
But then one day the world will be controlled by one individual called the Antichrist.
SO BE IT.

June 8, 2007, 11:25 a.m.this op-ed piece makes a lot of sense --but, of course, rather than listen to what the message is, those on the left would rather bash the messenger.
Maybe Cal has come around, or maybe not. Either way, what he's saying here makes sense.

June 8, 2007, 11:41 a.m.(( For every wellfare recipient out there, we have trust babies and people born into lives of priviledge.))
Oh, if only that were true! More like for every trust fund baby there are 100 welfare babies born.
I would like to know where this land of milk and honey is that the very rich are not far outnumbered by the very poor. I want to go there.
Yes, there are some welfare recipients who are down on their luck and need a hand. The system is not set up well to aid them for a bit until they get back on their feet. In fact, if they manage to scrape together some savings or accept a full-time job a minimum wage, this makes them ineligible for most further assistence. Ridiculous.
BUT..you also DO have fourth and fifth generation welfare recipients who have no idea that there is another way -- and look to that other way as for the very lucky and/or the suckers.
Both scenarios are true. That there are tons of trust fund babies is ridiculous
