June 9, 2007, 10:40 a.m.Just more fruitcake Christian paranoia from the least educated who call themselves Evangelicals! Who made the "judgement" that porn was bad or damaging or "wrong" in the first place? Only the self rightous and low class right!
Maybe there is a correlation here that in H.S. it was always the most conservative Christian preachers daughters who were the most sexually active!
The Evangelicals continue to make themselves a joke!

June 9, 2007, 10:52 a.m.This just gives me the chills. I can't imagine in this day and age allowing others to dictate what is right & wrong about an adults view of sex. If people hadn't been told it was dirty in the first dang place, they'd have grown up with a healthy outlook on the most natural of functions, with a respect for its potential consequences.

June 9, 2007, 11:04 a.m.This story actually raises more questions than it answers, but it does give us a couple of valuable pieces of information.
One, it isn't just the drugged out weirdie, sitting in his mom's basement that likes to watch people having sex, it's also the fine, upright, Christian gentleman. But, if people were honest, we knew that already. You have to be seriously repressed to not enjoy watching two people share a sexual experience, especially if it is in the type of niche that turns you on.
Second, it just goes to show that we're all human and we're animals first.
Now, the questions. Which Christians? Just Evangelicals? What is the definition of 'addicted'?

June 9, 2007, 11:14 a.m.Used to work as a projectionist in a porno movie theatre. My take is that it's sad when people will pay to watch rather than risk to experience.
If our society was not so suppressed, we might have healthier attitudes towards a whole bunch of things. I remember being in London in the 80's and seeing mannequins in store windows that had NIPPLES! Sheesh.
When will this society ever grow up.

June 9, 2007, 11:20 a.m.The way a drug dealer can give away drugs at first to hook people and create a market, some religions seem to create a market for the salvation they offer by keeping people feeling guilty of anything they can. In each case the profits are enormous.

June 9, 2007, 12:59 p.m.How the hell did any one measure that a person who visits a Porn site is an evangalist or not? If it can be done then how many visited gay porn sites i wonder? I wonder how many priest. Probably quite a few judging by the rapes comitted by the clergy.

June 9, 2007, 1:10 p.m.People who attempt to suppress their sexual nature are obviously much more susceptible to addiction to porn.
No surprise here.
Thanks for pointing this out though, Neo. Good article.

June 9, 2007, 1:34 p.m.Fundamentalist Christians were all "free market" when it was crunching the little guy and enrichening the ultra-wealthy.
How do you like your free market now Christ-boys?
Gee, I'm having a hard time fitting in a comment about rabid anti-gay, hate-monger, typical religious leader, gay-f*cking wannabe Ted Haggard.
Oh, well, maybe next post...

June 9, 2007, 1:42 p.m.This one is too easy!
People where raise to believe that sex was a sin, this was especially true for woman. Everyone knows the male view on sex, if he is alive, sex is on him mind. My girlfriend works in a nursing home and she can't believe how many of those coffin-dodgers still want some action. Moving on to the woman's point of view...I'm not going to speak for women, I'll confine my comments to personal observation and what women have told me. WOMEN LIKE SEX! Sorry ladies but the secret is out. Traditionally women have be taught that sex was a vile act that you had to suffer because it was your duty to your husband. As a result women refused to enjoy the act and if they did, they took that secret to the grave. I think the fact that evangacal christians are addicted to internet pron isn't so much an addiction as immersing themselves in something new to them. The internet just gives you anonymity (if you buy a nudie mag at the local store, the whole town know about it).

June 9, 2007, 1:51 p.m.Continuation of previous post:
The internet is not the problem, nor is pornography, or sex, the real problem is all the out-dated information that was drilled into our brains over the years. Accurate education about sex both the good and bad aspects of it will do more to reduce disease and unplanned pregnancy than pretending that it's evil and should not be done.
The writer claims that she was affected by pron she saw at her uncle's when she was 3? At that age it is very unlikely that she even knew what she saw. My guess is that she was either told she was affected by what she saw, or she just need the drama in her life.

June 9, 2007, 2:09 p.m.Thanks Neophile for this article.
Everyone has to fight the weak human pitfalls in life!
No one is perfect and we are all tempted by various evils that a not allowed per the Bible.
The internet is providing a 'hidden no one can see me' atmosphere. The flesh is weak. The endorphins are strong.
The people who are hurt by the persons who are unable to control these additions, is the what is bad. (all addictions impact other people besides the addicted person.)
It is pleasure for some, while it is pain for others!

June 9, 2007, 2:15 p.m.Now that's a very enlightened approach, luv.
Are you fairly unique in that attitude, or is your perspective pervasive in the Evangelical community?
Are we (by 'we" I mean the non-Evangelical community) incorrect in our assumption that this sort of activity is generally taboo for Evangeliacal Christians?

June 10, 2007, 12:10 a.m.articles?
Like,
'My name is Rick, and I never would have believed it if another guy told me about it and it didn't happen to me, but one day while I was walking to work, I slipped in a puddle and fell, twisting my ankle.
As I sat on the pavement cursing, a tall woman of completely unrealistic proportions wearing a long coat, took me by my hand and helped me to my feet.
'You poor thing! can you walk?'
'I'm OK', i stuttered, my eyes catching a glimpse of the smooth contours and convexities hidden by front of her coat as she leaned over to help me.
'No your not! Your all wet! Lets see if Jade has something in wardrobe for you and we can get you out of those wet clothes', she replied, as she led me thru a door that said 'New Horizons Modeling Inc.'
'My name's Ophir', she said, and squeezed my hand.
I didn't know it then, but i would never be the same after that afternoon.

June 9, 2007, 2:28 p.m.You have a valid point, many marriages fail because of sexual issues. I wonder how many marriages have been saved by using porn as a sexual aid; hell, how many marriages have been saved by swinging. I know for a fact that porn can "fix"(for lack of a better word) sexual issues in a relationship. I can't guarantee results on the swinging thing, but its a safe bet.

June 9, 2007, 3:54 p.m.Since the article never addresses the issue, I'd be very curious to know how "addiction" was defined. Did they go by the word of the responders? Was a specific set of criteria used? The percentage seems awfully high. If nothing else, I wouldn't have expected to see the numbers higher than that of the general population.

June 9, 2007, 4:56 p.m.Let me rephrase that-
The Fundamentalist Christians have long touted unbridled "free market" practices even when this was clearly detrimental to the under-priviledged, and impoverished, and unfairly advantageous to corporations.
So, with the example of internet porn, the free market has spoken. Corporate Christians helped open this door themselves.
As far as Ted Haggard goes (which seems to be all the way,) his hateful condemnation of people, while he is doing EXACTLY the same thing, is typical of the ultra-religious in my state.
