June 11, 2007, 6:38 p.m.from the article;
One veteran Republican said Gonzales had used up all his political capital in the Senate. "There is no confidence in the attorney general on this side of the aisle," said Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Specter voted to move the resolution forward, but he said many of his GOP colleagues would not because they feared political retribution.

June 11, 2007, 6:53 p.m.It's a game no matter who's playing it. Gonzales has lost the confidence of the majority in this country; the Senate vote or non-vote won't change that perception. He's still seen as W's private attorney and political toady at Justice.

June 11, 2007, 9:25 p.m.From the article:
Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., said it was inappropriate for the Senate to hold forth on a member of the president's Cabinet.
"This is a nonbinding, irrelevant resolution proving what? Nothing," Lott said. "Maybe we should be considering a vote of no confidence on the Senate or on the Congress for malfunction and an inability to produce anything."
That's a great idea!!! Let's have a vote of no confidence on the Senate AND the Congress and impeach Bush and Cheney as well.
Take back OUR government!

June 11, 2007, 10:24 p.m."They can have their votes of no confidence, but it's not going to make the determination about who serves in my government," Bush said in Sofia, Bulgaria, the last stop on a weeklong visit to Europe.

Are you a real living human being? Are you in a bunker somewhere, giddly typing away? Do you actually -work- for the government? Do you actually believe that your attitude would lead to the world being a better place?
I'm actually asking this honestly, not with malice or condesending attitude. You just seem to be...a pretty hostile person, and I always find it strange when a person thinks that there is one whole group of people to blame for all the trouble in the world, and everyone who does bad things is sort of controlled or a part of that enemy force.
The only thing this article has done for me is made me realize that the Republicans are craven cowards. Their political survival is more important than the person that is the highest officer of -our- laws. It essentialy means they do not care about law at all when you think about it.
Scary times folks

I forgot,
Who is trying to re-write the constitution on the democratic side of the fence? Actually it seems they are feebly trying to save some part of it, but anyone with a brain knows that that document isn't worth a darn anymore, you don't have any rights the govt. can't circumvent, even in broad daylight.
The Democratic party is overmatched and hoping the Republicans will make a mistake, but they won't, they've waited a long time for this atmosphere, this mood, this time for fear. Eventually the pendulum does stop swinging....

June 12, 2007, 5:40 a.m.They blocked this stupid play for the wrong reason. It's unconstitutional plain and simple.
Congress has no power to politically molest the President nor his officers. It's simply not granted in the Constitution. The ONLY thing Congress can do is impeach. Andrew Jackson made the same argument about his censure and his position is as unassailable now as it was then.
Congress, crap or get off the pot. Take Gonzales to the mat or move on to real business. Or just go home and quit wasting The People's money.

June 12, 2007, 8:43 a.m.It is very evident that the people of this country have lost all confidence in the job that Alberto Gonzoles is doing. He should be removed. George needs to be reminded that this is our government and not his.

June 12, 2007, 9:07 a.m.As usual partisans stand in the way of not only the will of the people, but also the only logical move for Congress to make. Rest assured, these days politics always trumps the proper answer.

June 12, 2007, 9:29 a.m.The democrats vaunted machine to bring about social change has bogged down. THe stated aim of ending the war and bringing Bush etal to impeachment has stalled. No real political will? or is it that there really is no court acceptable evidence for impeachment or removal of cabinet officials. Petulant is how I describe the dems and despite all the rhetoric on how the next congress and president will be dems and different. Congress is already dem and still nothing (NOTHING) is being done other than to continue to bitch. Do something already. Not the BS impeachment talk and not the "cut funding for our soldiers so they have to come home. I do not want these people who will do anything yet really nothing ruling my life. SHow me a workable platform based on facts. All I hear is how bad Bush is with no alternatives proposed other than vague generallities. Tell me what you are going to do. And then do it.

June 12, 2007, 9:42 a.m.I'm all in favor of Congresspeople voicing their opinions on Alberto. They can have a big ol' no confidence parade right down Pennsylvania Avenue for all I care, but they need to do it on their time, not the people's time.

June 12, 2007, 10:04 a.m.This absolutely shows how incompentant Bush is. He puts in people that are just like himself. Completely unqualified for their positions. The list of idiots he put in positions is just baffling. Gonzales and Rice are both so incompetant the only jobs they should be holding are at the drive through. The ony one worth a damn that he had in his group of chimps was Colin Powell. He got smart and resigned before he lost all credibility.

June 12, 2007, 10:23 a.m.I'm amazed this guy stays in this job. After the beating he's taken - and continues to take, narrowly avoiding the humiliation of a no confidence vote, and getting castigation from every quarter... maybe he figures there's no way he can possibly get a job somewhere else so he'd better ride it out as long as he can.

What you are talking about is an arguement of interpretation of the constitution, not "re-writing" it. One is certainly more bombastic than the other.
"Torture boy" Gonzales isn't leaving unless the Administration crashes completely. It's obvious they aren't going to ask him to leave, and honestly, right now he's their most important firewall. Everyone else in the administration is expendable, not Gonzo. He not only knows where the bodies are all buried, he has the ultimate power to keep them hidden a little longer.
Also, someone mentioned Bush et al being in office until Jan. 20 2009(longest 4 years ever...) I still don't see how after all of the things they have done, how they can leave office. I think they're going to stay.

June 12, 2007, 12:10 p.m.Here's the thing.
It's not the 8 Republican U.S. attournies fired because they wouldn't use the law to illegally harass members of the other party.
IT'S THE OVER 100 REPUB U.S. ATTOURNIES WHO HAVE NO PROBLEM USING THEIR POSITIONS TO FOLLOW THE NEOCON AGENDA TO SMEAR, BLOCK, AND FALSELY PROSECUTE DEMOCRATS. The ones who didn't say, "I won't do it."
Those are the very evil freaks we have to watch.
