The White House and Republican allies were optimistic that the immigration overhaul bill will come back to life and pass the Senate, as they hinted they will pitch the bill as necessary to securing the border and enforcing the law, appealing to conservatives wary that illegal immigrants will continue to stream into the country.

"It is the largest investment ever in border security," White House press secretary Tony Snow said on "Fox News Sunday." "We have a mechanism now for knowing who the illegals are, where they are, whether they're working, whether they're breaking the law."
Ok, I'm confused... "We have a mechanism now for knowing who the illegals are, where they are, whether they're working, whether they're breaking the law." ... Now if there is a mechanism to show who is here illegally, and if they have a job somewhere, why is it we keep being told it would be impossible to track all the illegal immigrants down? AND if "We have a mechanism now for knowing who the illegals are" and "whether they're breaking the law." Umm, we have to determime if ILLEGAL immigrants are breaking the law? Isn't the fact that they're ILLEGAL sort of tell us that already?

One piece at a time. Until the border is under control, no other steps are acceptable in a package as they love to pick and choose while failing to enforce. Shut it down, or shut up!

Yes there is only one way to start the process. Close the border, and I mean shut it down. The rest of the world would love it if we took in their illegals, along with the ones we already recieve.
Build that Wall, the hell with the fence. Everyone says build a fence. But a fence you can cut get over or under it. If there is no one around 24/7 in the areas that they are crossing. They will get around, under, over or through that fence. We as a nation can not survive this invasion.
No matter what bandaids that are used, we will need tougher messure when every last one of them hear that there is amnesty for them. It was already proven with the ones trying to get here right now when they thought this last bill was being voted on. Congress is on the verge of losing their votes and so are all of these canidates for Prez. None of them get it we are serious about this.

As a sovereign nation we have the right to determine who we accept into our country. We must tighten our borders and allow only a specific quota of immigrants. They will be of our choosing after their submission for citizenship has been srutinized. We were known at one time as the melting pot of the world. We are now known as just the pot as we have allowed anyone to enter our country and stay. We have enough trouble with our own and can no longer continue this practice.
Please contact your congressman/woman and let them know your stnad on this issue. I have notified mine that this issue is a job saving issue for them. My vote depends on how they handle this.
