The Sopranos Fade To Black »
Posted by: JamesMarcus 2 years, 5 months agoAfter seven years of backstabbing, Byzantine fun, The Sopranos ended not with bang but with an onion-ring-scented whimper. In this sense, series creator David Chase--who stepped in to write and direct the final installment--toyed with our expectations to the very last frame.

June 11, 2007, 12:39 a.m.so sad, so much build up, so disappointing, artsy fartsy ending instead of the bada-bing, bada-boom we all anticipated.

June 11, 2007, 8:17 a.m.The Soprano fans deserved so much more than the Jedi mind trick Chase pulled off on the last episode. Chase, why did you even bother coming back for the last season? You should have stayed in bed and let someone else write the season finale. Now that I know what you are not capable of, I will make sure to steer clear of anything you write.

June 11, 2007, 8:31 a.m.It sounds to me like The Sopranos ended with a show that was very much like the entire season that lost me as a fan. I believe it was season five or six. Oh well. I'd be interested to see how many people cancel their HBO accounts today....

June 11, 2007, 8:48 a.m.As a fan of the Sopranos, I was not really disappointed with the final season. I do think at times though, Chase spent way to long on certain scenes that seemed to go no where in the end.
I look for a 'Sopranos' movie a couple years from now. The series ended last night in such a way that it almost makes one inevitable.

June 11, 2007, 9:26 a.m.Everyone should cancel their accounts with HBO until David Chase or someone with half an imagination re-writes the last episode. I could have done a better job writing during a PMS attack! What was the point in following the series for this load of crap let down?!?!

June 11, 2007, 9:59 a.m.Ok, let's take it easy now.. it was never anything but a damned TELEVISION PROGRAM. It's not your family. Not your relatives. Not REAL! And, the last couple of "seasons" (if seasons can BE 18 months apart!) sucked so back I didn't have to vacuum the living room for weeks. This last idiot trap was pretty clearly a set-up for a movie. Which won't be ready for ... oh, 18 MONTHS or so. I'm getting in line with those who won't watch anymore Chase programs until he either A) gets OFF the drugs, or B) gets back ON the drugs - whatever.

June 11, 2007, 10:53 a.m.There are two letters that come to mind P U! How could they do this to their loyal fans. I for one will be canceling my HBO they always leave us in the dust, only great season ending was Six feet under. I felt like I could here their laughter as the screen went black. If a movie is made from this no one should attend!

June 11, 2007, 11:17 a.m.Come on people. You knew Tony wasn't getting whacked. The bottomline is $$ and killing off Tony closes the door on a movie or maybe even a comeback. After Phil was killed, it was a certainty.
Not suprised and I thought the ending was fine.

June 11, 2007, 11:42 a.m.Well, you know Tony once told Bobby (I think it was Bobby) that you never see it coming, feel and hear nothing, just BAM, blackness....maybe Tony got whacked...

June 11, 2007, 11:45 a.m.Fade to black = the end. We don't need a cliched shootout scene. Great conclusion to a great series.

June 11, 2007, 12:03 p.m.For sure the guy at the counter after he saw Meadow come in went to the bathroom (that's when it cut) got his weapon that was stashed (i.e. Godfather when Michael went to bathroom) and came back out to kill the whole damn family--I'm sure that's what happened ---

June 11, 2007, 12:43 p.m.OK, "The Sopranos" was a show about the "weird life of a mobster", not a show about the "mob".
I'm a "Sopranos" fan because the show always left me in suspense from the first to the final episode. I like the
(fade to black)...
just kidding ;)
"what if", cause and effect, sensationalistic style of writing.
In retrospect of the finale, leaving everyone in suspense was the intent so that you could make peace with the show on your own terms and/or continue to discuss the possible outcomes of each remaining character for years to come.
Also, who really wants "Tony Soprano" to get "whacked"? True fans did not want a tragic ending because Tony represents a little something in all of us and most us of would like his television legacy to live on vicariously through our fantasies.
Farewell & Bada Bing Bada Boom!

June 11, 2007, 1:16 p.m.Fabulous, funny ending. I thought my cable went out and I was cussin' up a storm until the credits started to roll and then I had to laugh at myself and that damn David Chase. I bet no one thought it would end this way.
WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITHOUT MY FAVORITE GANGSTER AND THE GANG. Can't wait until "Sopranos: The Movie" comes out.
...and I love James Gandolfini...if he never does another character, he shouldn't give a damn...he's RICH as HELL!!
Rock on Sopranos!!!
PS - And when the guy went into the bathroom--I thought "just like the Godfather, the gun is in the bathroom and that guy is gonna come out and whack Tony..." OR ...the guy could break the long-honored Mafia code and kill the entire family. When you get over being mad or disappointed, it really was a COOL ending.

June 11, 2007, 2:03 p.m.That was the stupidest way to end the show. I am definitely not going to go running to any theater to see a David Chase movie for sure.

June 11, 2007, 4:28 p.m.I stopped watching Lost because I think they are going to do the same thing.
Its all David Lynch's fault.
He started it all with the stupid endings.
every one is always just trying to cash in somehow.
pitiful greedy humans.

June 11, 2007, 4:34 p.m.There has been a lot of debate about this episode on several forums that I frequent. Here is my take on the whole final episode/scene of the series. IMO, David Chase figured that no matter what the final resolution was, there would be a debate about the ending. I figure Chase, just let everyone make their own conclusions as to what will happen to Tony Soprano. I guess these is also the possibility of a movie to give final resolution to to the series, as well. I don't think that is going to happen though.

June 11, 2007, 5:01 p.m.Never watched an episode. But who needs the Sopranos when you've got the Bush administration? More whacking and intrigue than any TV show, that's for sure.

June 11, 2007, 5:19 p.m.Chase & the cast deserve to be locked in the same cell in which Sienfeld ended his show.
Maybe they should have watched the last episode of MASH to lear how to close a show with class.
