US signals permanent stay in Iraq »

Posted by: ameliog 2 years, 4 months ago

"This is a really bad idea, one that will only feed the image of the US as the occupier, the colonial power," says a former official with the American provisional authority. "There's no way long-term military bases are going to be acceptable to a majority of the Iraqi population."

Who's gonna staff these bases, and for how long?

Why don't these analysts ever take these things into account when they plan these actions out? Or maybe, they don't care, as long as Lockheed Martin and Grumman get paid...

Congress might authorize increasing the size of the military. The defense industry will continue to grow.

Thirty years ago we had a British family move in and farm beside us, one day while we were talking we got on the subject of the British Empire and the U.S. empire, he told me the difference between the British and the Americans was, the British came conquered then went home, the Americans come conquer and stay.

Well, this was already in place. We have been building permanent bases in Iraq since 2004. No surprise here!

First I'm not surprised we are in the process of building the largest US Embassy in our history and Embassy in the world.

Second we have 14 military bases there.

As to who will staff them? Anyone watch the SciFi Channel? If you do you will notice that the CIA advertises on certain shows. Eureka like or hate it is a prime example of commercials airing for the CIA.

I just can't resist highlighting this statement from the article: "The aim would be to keep American soldiers on Iraqi soil well into the century as a support for the Iraqi government against outside aggression, a means of training and developing a new Iraqi military, and a platform from which the US could fight Al Qaeda and other war-on-terror opponents."

To support Iraqis against outside aggression? An outside aggressor is supporting its victim against outside aggression. It may be necessary, and it's sad, but it's still funny at the same time.

The last part of the statement is likely the truth. Iraq has probably always been meant as a platform, not only against Al Qaeda, but also against Iran, possibly Syria, and anybody else who thinks that the people of the Middle East should determine what happens in the Middle East. Who cares about the Iraqis! It's just their bad luck that they live there.

Just how long can the US Tax payers afford to stay in Iraq?

(where does the tax revenue come from to fund the treasury? From the foreign workers? The American workers good paying jobs? Big businesses?)

We keep pouring money into their country, for what purpose?

Most of the Iraqi citizens have left the country, who is fighting for their freedom?

Our government closed bases here in the US to save money, but has spend billions to build bases in another country?

Wonder if the Iraqi citizens want America to stay in their country for a long time?
