Many Americans expected change with the new Democratic-controlled Congress but few believe change has occurred. Polls have suggested that the new congress has the same or lower approval ratings than President Bush. Since Ron Paul is running as a Republican, the LP should focus more on local elections or pick up Paul if he doesn't get the nomination

From what I know of other governments, the majority party doesn't win control based on winning seats. They have to form a coalition of parties, or something like that, called Party-list proportional representation.
In any case, the only way a 3rd party has a chance is if the other 2 parties
a) get banned from government (if this is possible) or abolished
b) fundraising is abolished. Instead each party receives a capped amount to spend on campaigns and they cannot spend any more than that AND they have to return those funds after the election is over.
c) to even be allowed to be voted on, candidates must pass an intelligence and physical fitness test.
I personally prefer the most enlightened form of choosing leadership...THUNDERDOME! 2 men enter, 1 man lead!

Damn right its time for a 3rd party, at least to shake up the other two. I would really like to see a party that truly wants to govern down the middle. One that would keep taxes low, but not abridge the reproductive rights of women, maintain a strong defense, but doesn't interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, one that would apply pressure on the oil companies to increase their refining capacity with those gross profits of theirs and one that would encourage mid-wester farmers to grow genetically modified crops for fuel and then dump the farm subsides, makes illegal drugs leagal and then tax their sales through reputable drug stores and pharmacies and other initiatives

Another thing that I think whose time has come is that "it's a wasted vote mantra" That's the same-o-same-o. All political parties should be included and like the conservatives always say, "let the market set the price".

Wish no longer! The Libertarian Party will soon rise above minor party status as we grow our ranks with disenfranchised democrats and republicans and educate the independants that we have more in common with them than they realize. We aren't pushing for anarchy, we are pushing for recognition and a voice of reason in this broken two party system and to help people realize they have a choice but with that Liberty comes personal responsibility and the first step is to 'just say 'no'' to big government and these horribly broken and hijacked political parties in the majority.

Democrats and Republicans will not allow a 3rd party. They have power and will not give it up. These 2 parties are the reason our political system has become about purchased influence.
