June 12, 2007, 9:14 a.m.Very very sad to see what misguided humans are capable of, but heartening to see that justice has been served.
In a bizarre way, his actions serve a lesson to us that it is not only the fundamentalism of Muslims, Jews and Christians that can be propelled toward intense, destructive forces.
Perhaps with that in mind, we can be less likely to stereotype: clearly all humans are capable of this on some twisted level.

June 12, 2007, 10:54 a.m.And to think that I'm along with him in age. I know what right would not think of doing any things like what he did because I'm a United States Army man and he should think God that he was not shot for what he did.

June 12, 2007, 11:59 a.m.Is this any different from what has been happening in Iraq the past 4 years ?? Iraqis have been slaughtered, maimed and bombed (remember 'shock 'n awe'??) for years now. Innocent Iraqis have been tortured, detained, and murdered.....all under the guise of "war".....a war declared by Bush for WMD....which he knew never existed. The 'plan' to invade a foreign country, murder their leader, take over the oil reserves and institute a permanent US presence in the Middle East was hatched at the start of the Bush II presidency....911 merely gave them the chance to create enough fear in the US populace to let them get away with it....Bush et al should be next before the war crimes tribunal !!

June 12, 2007, 12:40 p.m.Not to mention the one billion iraqi dollars 'mysteriously' stolen from hijacked bank accounts since the iraq war. By who, i wonder?...25,000 innocent civillians dead on top of that, mostly by uranium bombs and gun fire.

June 12, 2007, 3:02 p.m.Only 35 years for atrocities and ethnic cleansing? That seems pretty light. Good behavior and out in what? 15? Saddam sure got more justice than that.

June 12, 2007, 9:12 p.m.Poor Sadamm, he found out the hard way the difference between being tried by the Hague (which he should have been) and being tried by your political enemies.

June 12, 2007, 10:27 p.m.The Slavs have been killing each other for many years - WWI started with an assassination there ,during WWII some of the worst atrocities against the Jews were carried out by Slavs - Tito was the only unifier they had - then came the 1990's & the killing resumed, funny thing is most was carried out by Christians against Muslims. Now everyone has their own state & the killers are at peace and the Sunday Travel section advertises vacations in Croatia. Maske sure you have an Uzi in your swimshorts - just in case....

June 12, 2007, 10:52 p.m.Time4change is obviously not an educated or informed individual. What he or she alleges is a rediculous display of ingnorance of the facts or truth. Maybe this is an Al Quaida sympathiser or collaborator. I realize that may be a little harsh, but sure this person is misguided, illogical, and out of touch with reality. What few people outside of the middle east and Europe realize is that the war on terrorism is real and it will not end when President Bush leaves office. The democrats are playing America for a fool and I must admit that our national character is to be impatient and expect only short wars to solve conflicts, when this one calls for longterm commitment of the national will. Sadly I think Americans are too weak to understand or make that commitment. The US did not invade Iraq for Oil-if we had, then why aren't we running the oli fields and reaping the rewards? The threat and oppression of Saddam were real. Al Quaida is real-better fought in Iraq than America.

when saddam controlled the oil it was around $25.00 a barrel. After GW and dick got control it tripled in price.
my father recently went to germany and greece for vacation. he purchased his heart medication for around 2 euros. here it costs around $46??????? the drugs are made here by an american company.
same thing goes for oil. just because we control iraq's oil doesnt mean you are going to get it cheaper. only the oil companies are going to benefit. HMMM EXXON maybe......
if Halliburton can charge $100 for a hammer im sure they will cut us a brake and give us a discount on the oil.

June 14, 2007, 12:09 p.m.It's not just the oil companies that are benefiting, it's the government. They're making millions out of this war, as I mentioned in the other comment. The only reason (I believe) they went to war with Iraq WAS for money. Not to seek WMD's (which I doubt existed).
Btw, the Iraqi civilian body count is not up to at least 65,000 people. (www.iraqbodycount.org)
