On June 5th, 2007, the California State Assembly passed AB 43, the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act, which grants same-sex couples the right to marry. A lot of folks--including legislators and a few presidential candidates--are saying we shouldn't be talking about such things "in a time of war."

When it was up for vote, a large majority of the people's republic of California voted against same sex marriage.

But, like Bush, the legislature knows better than the people it rules.

I'd argue that people should talk about whatever they want in a time of war, for the same reasons Alexia says--democracy is discussion. It's unfortunate that so many want to talk about celebrities and pop culture, but they're free to interest themselves in what they want in a free society.

I just hope their neglect of government doesn't allow those freedoms to be destroyed.

We need another prophet like Lot otherwise America will also be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorra. People should fear the wrath of God.

Time to write my state Senators and remind them of how we voted a few years ago. I really do not have a problem with gay marraige, I DO have a problem with the legislature doing exactly what we voted against.

No problem with gay mrriage? Gay marriage is not a marriage. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Gay marriage is an unnatural act of sodomy.

Put it to a referendum of the people. That'd be more of a democracy.

One drawback to the institution of matrimony being legalized for Gay men in California has been the inability to determine if the bride is indeed a virgin. It is hoped that the scientific community will quickly make available a reasonably priced device able to make this determination. Several promising devices are presently under consideration by the W.C.T.U. and one may be made available in the near future.

It is a civil rights issue and should not be put up for a popular vote. One group of citizens does not have the right to deny rights to another group. Many also try to inject religion into the argument, this doesn't wash either because no group has the right to impose their religious beliefs on another group or individual. You may not like the idea of homosexual marriage and I do believe your only recourse is to not marry anyone of the same sex. You should all go to church and pray to God very hard and maybe he will smite those people that you don't like.

War, you mean that false thing going on in Iraq? Even if it was a real war (meaning justified), it has nothing to do with infringing on our freedoms. Free speech is a right all Americans have and we need to cherish, not stifle it.

I agree, for those that are against same sex marriages, then marry someone of the other sex.

This is not a religious issue. The United States is not yet a theocracy. Marriage is a contract between two people. They agree to share their lifes and worldly goods.

There had been laws against inter-racial marriages for years and the arguement for those laws were the same as the ones against same sex marriages.

honestly if you are against same sex marriage and have a real problem with it because you know "they will burn in hell" why not let them? is it not their choice to sin? I can not stand people who throw their religion into everything not everyone believes what you believe and if they want to take the chance and burn in hell LET THEM it is NOT your choice. Last time I check it is God who judges them in the end not you!

Everyone has the right to make their own choices, if they choose the so called "wrong path" that is their choice to make and no one elses.
