President Bush is threatening to revive the failed comprehensive immigration bill in "improved" form. He is wasting his and our time. No amount of improving can make the comprehensive approach the best path for America to solve its immigration woes. Instead of a big bang approach to immigration reform, we need to adopt a different sort of

    From the article:

The public does not believe that any new law will be enforced any more rigorously than the existing immigration laws. So it sees any compromise deal as another in a series of empty promises like those made to sell earlier amnesty programs that only made matters worse. The politicians do not seem to realize how completely they have lost the confidence of the American people when it comes to stemming the flow of illegals across the border. The government must earn credibility by performing the basics of guarding the border and registering those without papers, before the people will trust it to manage any new path toward permanent residence or citizenship for a group of people whose number we cannot estimate to the nearest three million.

This bill is crap. Why immigration reform? Why not just enforce the laws on the books. I tell you why too many people stand to loose money and votes that's why. I notice the entire Congress of the United States is messing around trying to figure out a way to milk 12 million votes from illegal aliens. Give it up. The majority of people who are NOW voting citizens clearly DO NOT want amnesty or any sort of citizenship or legality granted to illegal invaders. Never mind "reform" - enforce the current laws. There's nothing to debate. You have been, and continue to be, derelict in your Constitutional duty to protect our borders. REMOVE illegal invaders. It's the law. Do your job. Do it now. THERE'S NOTHING TO DEBATE!. 12 million people have violated our border. STOP THE FLOW, NOW. Put the invaders out. Punish those helping the invaders, it's that simple.

I agree with the method Lifson proposes. Politicians love huge legislation, because it's easy to mislead the populace with and hide pork in. A phased approach would allow up to set a plan in place and see how each step affects the process rather than dealing in the hysterics of 'what is going to happen'.

        Great find Stephen.
