June 14, 2007, 11:20 a.m.There are no concessions needed. First just secure ALL the borders and ports, enforce the current laws, raise the the fines for hiring illegal immigrants, actually inpose those fines on employers, and NO AMNESTY. As with most things people, and government, try to make us believe very simple things are complex issues, this is not a hard thing to understand, a majority of the people that are legal US citizens, or that came here legally and are waiting, or that are trying to come here legally and are waiting, do not want this amnesty bill to pass.

June 14, 2007, 11:52 a.m.If they were serious about securing our borders, the two border patrol agents that are sitting in prison would be pardoned, and the drug dealer they shot in the tail, would not have received a settlement of approx. $3.6 million for that bullet in his tail!
The failure to build fence of more that 15 miles from the bill passed last year is enough proof that enforcing the border security is not a priority!
"fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!"

June 15, 2007, 8:08 a.m.I think a good concession would be to shorten the bill. 600 pages? Is that necessary? Yes, when you want to hide stupid things inside said bill.

June 15, 2007, 8:23 a.m."President Bush, hoping to salvage immigration overhaul legislation, has agreed to an upfront infusion of money for federal border security efforts in a concession designed to win over skeptical conservatives."
That statement alone should open everyone's eyes! Weren't we told there were "triggers" in the bill that would require the border be certified as secure by DHS BEFORE any other provisions in the bill were implemented??? If that was indeed true, why is the Bush offer considered a Concession???

June 15, 2007, 11:57 a.m.Anyone watching the House on C-span??
They just passed the appropriation bill for the Dept of Homeland Seciruty
An amendment was offered to add funding for the construction of the fence along the border - to fund the Secure Fence Act from last fall.
The amendment was voted DOWN!
Just goes to show that what comes out of Congress is for show. I don't think they EVER had any intention to fund the actual construction
They will continue to give lip service to border security but will never follow through
