June 14, 2007, 7:20 p.m.Officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said Republican and Democratic supporters of the bill presented their proposal to the Senate's top two leaders, who in turn met to discuss it.

June 14, 2007, 7:40 p.m.Don't say I didn't tell you so. Once Bush, Cheney, and Rove get those Republican Senators and congressman in one of those "closed door sessions" the pants drop and the paddle flies.

June 14, 2007, 8:14 p.m.I'm confused so there are 12 million illegal immigrants in this country. If we make them all citizens aren't 12 million more going to take their places at jobs paying below minimum wage and won't those 12 million be out of jobs and cost the tax payers billions in support since generally they won't be able to get jobs?

June 14, 2007, 8:25 p.m.We are all quite astute at the reasoning behind the reintroducing of this bill. CHEAP LABOR.
Why pay an American a fair wage when greater profits can be forseen hiring an illegal alien. It's so clear and stark yet our representatives represent big business not the electorate.
It is so cost effective for business, no medical, no paid leave, no social cost and just plain cost effective. Personally I am so tired of hearing Americans will not take the job so the illegals are necessary. Thats the excuse from Big Business but the truth, they want a larger bottom line at the expense of their fellow Americans.
It is so obvious but your elite think you are just plain stupid. Americans will work and be productive for a fair wage and benefits, not our elite who read this will puke on their hypocrisy.

June 14, 2007, 9:23 p.m."America admits more legal immigrants than any country on Earthâ;;there isn't even a close second place in this regard. Why? Because if you want freedom and opportunity, where else are you going to go? And America is more accepting of immigrants than any other nation. The problem is that, regardless of how high our limits for legal immigration are, the world is capable of exceeding those limitsâ;;and there exists a constituency of corrupt businesses and politicians within our country that is willing to aid and abet the violation of any limit for their own gain... I am for free markets. I am for free people. I am not for a lawless free-for-all in which ambitious (or merely selfish) citizens get to pick and choose which laws they will obey (or insist that I obey) and which laws they will simply ignore because they want more money." â;;Mac Johnson

June 14, 2007, 9:26 p.m.I find it funny that Jorge the decider said today that the immigration reform was urgent yet border security and enfocing existing laws aren't.This is just one in the series of successes in this lousy administration.Nothing these clowns do suprises me.Just my two-cents.

June 14, 2007, 9:27 p.m.Hopefully this bill will not go through. Bush is very generous about throwing our money around, but I don't think it will work this time. My Senator, who is republican is against any bill that provides citizenship to the illegals.
But one never knows about Washington, its a different world...far removed from reality.

June 14, 2007, 9:46 p.m.What part of NO doesn't congress and the senate understand. They are making all kinds of provisions and tricks to get the illegals in here and keep the ones who are already here at the expense of the middle American. This country has plenty of unemployed Americans who would do the work. We Americans would work for a decent salary. These corporations want two hundred percent profit. No CAN DO. We Americans in this country need to wake up. These people have already cost this country billions in schools, child care, medical care, and now they want social security too, not to mention free education while the American tax payer has to sell his house to send his kids to college. I particulary find insulting that these people have the nerve to demonstrate and demand legalization in this country and all that goes with it. America wake up!!!!! For the senators and congressmen that are behind this joke, I'm glad that their names are being published so that I can make the right vote next time.

June 14, 2007, 9:47 p.m.In the last three days, I have repeatedly e-mailed Presidente Jorge Bush, my senators, and congressman letting them know how against this bill I am. My youngest son, a major Bush supporter, is wondering if Bush had a stoke or suffered major brain damage and it is being withheld from the American people.
I wonder how many illegals are working his ranch and how many are part of his extended family. I do not know anyone who is in favor of this bill. My friends are all against it, whether they are conservatives or liberals.
I'm also disgusted with communities, churches and employers who hide and protect these criminals. Sanctuary, ha! Illegals are not in any danger from their governments. Let them protest in the center of Mexico City. No, we should be protesting in the center of Mexico City and waving the flag of the USA. Where do you think any US citizen who did that would be spending their time? Where the illegals who are here should be, jail or desert tent cities.

June 14, 2007, 10 p.m.If by chance this happens, we need to show the ones who pass this kind of legislation, that we as Americans will not stand for it. I can't imagine why people in this country do not take an active stand. If Bushy's boys won't answer e-mails, calls or letters, then maybe a few demonstrations will get their attention. If the illegals can do it in my country, then why can't Americans fight for what is right.

June 14, 2007, 10:40 p.m.There's a reason why they are called "illegal" immigrants. I have no problem with pepole coming to this country, working, learning the language and making a better life for themselves. What i do have a problem with is people living on welfare, not controling their children, and being a detriment to this country I love. The laws we have just need to be enforced, period. It's not a republican thing, it's not a democrat thing, its a quality of life thing.

June 14, 2007, 10:42 p.m.Qualification, you should have paid more attention in school, an american president can only serve 2 terms, Bush is done after this term anyway.

June 14, 2007, 10:52 p.m.deport these illegal criminals..fine the employers..and build the freakin fence--then maybe we will think the govt is capable of doing 12 million background checks in 24 hours--im not saying we should go round them up--but if business stops hiring these people..they will self deport by the millions--and these are farm workers--many of these people have factory type jobs that would be entry level positions for americans and helpelevate the middle city un-employment--wheres jesse and sharpie on this one

Gangrene
June 14, 2007, 11:33 p.m.We should offer no amnesty to any immigrant that entered this country illegally. Anyone found to be hiring these illegals should be faced with either excessive fines and or jail time. How about the INS doing the job they're supposed to be doing before talks are even resumed about this bill.
How many of these people are going to like working here making below minimum wage and having to lose most of that to taxes? I see more families on welfare, medicaid, and getting benefits that most natural born citizens are denied.
What's going to happen if one of these people gets hurt on the job and is disabled? If the Social Security Administration denies them they'll just start yelling discrimination.
This whole thing is going to open a can of worms that the U.S. isn't ready to handle.
