June 14, 2007, 9 a.m.Thank god the UN has approved the mission in IRaq. Without it the US would have to reconsider. WHat a joke. THe UN voted not to go into iraq and yet now has the balls to tell the US that they agree with the Iraq war but won;t participate. THe UN should be disbanded. It is an ineffective and devisive organization that has become irrelevant. The world pays little attention to the UN unless it is favorable to a particular position. Otherwise everyone just does as Iran does and ignores the UN. Why wouldn't you. No balls and it always takes millions of deaths before the UN realizes that discussion and negotiation with radical and fundamentalist states is not working. And even then a strong letter is the usual first strike.

Yeah, they should be disbanded because they never demanded, the US and the Israelis to get rid of all the Nukes and other WMD. This organization actually helps the Western imperialism, it is the main culprit which created the country called Israel along with the Western world, that is where it has gone wrong, when it fails to implement Western dictates it is bad and therefore it of is no relevance.

June 14, 2007, 11:04 a.m."Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari told the council members that despite the senseless violence "the government has made tremendous strides toward the day when security will be provided by a self-sufficient, Iraqi national security force"
They are always making strides. I would like to know what the exact benchmarks are and which have been met. I am tired of hearing these vast sweeping statements about the progress there.

June 14, 2007, 12:26 p.m.They should change the name to "Sometimes cooperative but will always defer to their own nationalistic agendas Nations".
The SCBWADTTONAN doesn't have the same ring as the UN, but at least it's truth in advertising.

June 14, 2007, 1:32 p.m.We do indeed need to stay the course - for at least 30 years until we get all of the oil that we have rightfully won. Of course thirty years (length of the Iraq oil contracts) might not be enough time for the bozos in Iraq to get their government together, but so be it.

June 14, 2007, 3:10 p.m.Send in the U.N. troops if they are needed. Reminds me of Vietnam where the U.S. continued to prop up a regime that was not the majorities opinion. We finally left and the regime finally fell. Same with Iraq, putting off the inevitable. America is supporting a corrupt elite few in Iraq with the same dillusional thinking.
Thats are leaders, both politically and militarily, they fail to see the obvious. Get the hell out of Iraq, NOW.
Did any of our leaders read history and know the phrase, "History repeats itself?" Show me a college educated person and I will show you a person who may possibly have absolutely no common sense. Most likely our leaders were stealing college exams, partying, snorting and using other various drugs and alcohol. While anyway, that act the part.

June 14, 2007, 3:19 p.m.Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said:"While Iraqis will always be grateful for their liberation from an absolute despot, no Iraqi government official - indeed, no Iraqi citizen - wants the presence of foreign troops on Iraqi soil one day longer than is vitally necessary," he said.
Sounds reasonable enough to me, in order to quash the violence, & maintain peace you do what you got to do, then leave.

June 14, 2007, 3:41 p.m.This guy (Zebari)is a pathetic hack. He wants the 2 billion a week (or whatever it is now) that the US is spending in addition to the American lives - while the Iraqis in power sit on their butts and do nothing. Progress of Iraqi government toward goals? Forget it. There is none.
If the U.N. thinks it is such a great deal, let the U.N. send more than a token number of forces.

June 14, 2007, 7:14 p.m.So, the U.N. approves of the U.S. remaining in Iraq. Isn't that grand?!
The United Nations should then PAY the United States one hundred million dollars a month for that support. Countries such as DUBAI: SWEEDEN and other wealthy nations can do their share to help the U.S. combat GLOBAL terrorism. Since it is obvious these clowns have NOT the stomach for fighting, they can pay for the U.S. effort.
So many countries bash the U.S. for everything yet virtually NONE are willing to do THEIR share. If terrorism is a GLOBAL issue then let's EVERYONE chip in.

Time for the Blue Helmeted soldiers to take over then. U.S.A. comes home. U.N. moves in.

June 14, 2007, 8:55 p.m."The United Nations has the potential to assist and develop national dialogue, regional cooperation on Iraq, and international support, [Ashraf] Qazi said."
Well, I hope so, but I fear this is unrealistic. The best thing we can do for Iraq is to GET OUT!

June 14, 2007, 9 p.m."No American president will be able to pull our troops out and watch the Iraqi government dissolve in chaos, only to be taken over by the very terrorists who are planting IEDs to kill our troops. And if a male American president can t do so, a female president certainly cannot. As a woman, as a Democrat, from the first moment Hillary Clinton were to take office as president, she would face the task of proving herself tough enough for the job. Even if foreign leaders and our enemies do not doubt her on this score, she will feel the need to prove herself. Any signal of weakness, such as a withdrawal from Iraq, would embolden our enemies and weaken her credibility... Pay no attention to her politically motivated vote to 'end' the war by cutting off funds or her support for a mandatory withdrawal schedule. Both votes were cast in the heat of a presidential race in which she cannot allow Edwards or Obama to flank her to the left.

June 14, 2007, 9:33 p.m.We do not need to send any more Americans to die for nothing in Iraq. We as a nation need to take to the street as we did during Vietnam to get the word across that this war needs to stop. We also need to remind Congress and the Senate that during the next election, they will also be gone. Enough is enough. We have been lied to and cheated by them. Our country has become a joke.
