I guess it's better to launch with a worthy aspiration than to start right off saying we're going to extort every penny we can grab till we own everything on earth.

One of my first engineering jobs was with Newport News Shipbuilding. I worked on the aircraft carrier Kennedy. The company founder's mantra was proudly displayed at the entrance to the engineering building. It read, "We build good ships, at a profit if we can, at a loss if we must, but always good ships." I liked knowing that motto was supposed to guide my efforts. When Tenneco bought the firm in 1968, the first thing they did was take that motto down.
