A government-backed resolution condemning the author's knighthood was passed unanimously by the lower house of the Pakistani parliament amid angry protests

June 19, 2007, 9:12 a.m.Britain did the right thing! Pakistan like other countries do not know toleration. That's the problem with the Middle East, escept for Israel who would rather live in peace. I f the fanatics put down their guns, there would be peace. I f the Israelis put down their guns, there would be a batch of dead Israelis!!

June 19, 2007, 9:14 a.m.Pakistan's behavior towards Rushdie and the UK reminds me of China's behavior towards all states which support or welcome the Dalai Lama... definitely some parallel there.

Because your mind is limited to Western propoganda. Islam has been the most tolerant religion when it comes to religious freedom than anyone in History. The evidence is there.

One does need to point out that other religions don't put a price on your head and attempt to assassinate you if your critical or satirical of their beliefs. Remember my imaginary friend can beat up your imaginary friend. LOL :-D

June 19, 2007, 8:43 p.m.Does anyone here know why Muslims are commanded to RUSH and perhaps DIE to kill Rushdie? It's because the novel he wrote that GOT him into hot water, pointed out a contradiction within the Qu'ran itself, hence the title of the ambiguous, meandering, novel, which, come to think of it, didn't have much to do with Islam. But, the title of the novel POINTS the person TO the reason WHY Trout Rusdie HAS to die, according to the "religion of peace". There is no explanation FOR that part of the Qu'ran to HAVE that certain contradiction within it, but, just pointing it out, THAT person, HAS to die. Which is why the fatwah on Rushdie.

June 19, 2007, 10:32 p.m.Reminds me of the riots and when the Pope prayed for the death of everyone connected with the DaVinci Code and how the Mossad sent death squads after Mel Gibson due to the Passion of the Christ,oh wait those things never happened just some people picketed.Yeah maybe the Muslims should stop saying they are so so peaceful and take a look at those harmed in their cities after they burn down businesses and set fire to cars after one of their peaceful protests/temper tantrums over their poor widdle feelings being hurt because we see how very sensitive the little Islamic imbeciles are.

This is exactly what is wrong with Islam and why it has it all 400 yrs backwards. When a gov. official can make such a statement and still keep his job the message is clear. Maybe Rushdie's honour was timed to irritate maybe not. The fact is the author has initiated valid critique and it should only be demolished with better critique and logic not blood if at all. The moment this is undersrood Islam will be at present time and not centuries back as it is clearly now worldwide. If the Prophet lived a life with enough example and behavior that indicated to those that are muslims today that he would have wanted killed anyone critical of his conduct and not properly debated then this was a false Prophet and a false philosopher as well. If not then a great number of muslims worldwide need to stop betreaying their Prohpet with their intolerance.

Religions mature, they get better and eventually yield to rational logic = modern scientific, free thinking, tolerant, civil societies, in order to survive as movements for a few more centuries and contribute to human civilization until education takes over ignorance and puts everything to proper perspective. If they dont yield to the power of logic they will trigger a better weapon delivering power and we will all lose in the process although not symmetrically so. The problem is weapons kill people not their ideas. Only better ideas can do that. But for a better idea to emerge one needs to be rational and open minded. It is exactly the point in time where western civilization diverged. In choosing to embrace logic you allow yourself to change the ideas which in turn change you.
