Immigration Bill Clears Test Vote in Senate »

Posted by: zaph22 2 years, 5 months ago

The senators voted, 64 to 35, to invoke cloture, or move to consideration of the bill itself. Since 60 votes are required for cloture, and only 45 voted for cloture two weeks ago, the measure's supporters were heartened by today's vote. Had the cloture vote failed today, the bill would have been dead for the foreseeable future.

          Well, for the moment Hutchenson (R-TX) did vote No on this bill. And if she wants to get re-elected, she needs to call in all her favors and stop this bill from passing, period!

          Now, it is important to contact the House of Representatives too, to let them know that this bill is not acceptable and tell them NO AMNESTY and We want our borders and ports secured and employers arrested for breaking the law!

          Employers & illegals alike are breaking our laws;

          Law breakers are law breakers, the prisons and jails are full of law breakers none of them are getting amnesty!

            So are there benchmarks in this bill or are we just going to go along for a few years, then figure out maybe we should have developed some metrics to determine if this plan is going to work?

              To expect these morons to do anything else but feather their own nests and pockets, is the hight of stupidity.

              I couldn't say why I held out the hope that this bill would never see daylight. Guess I was dumber than a stump.

                So it looks like 19 Senators chaged their vote from 2 weeks ago. Anyone know who they are?

                  I hope that the people of my state remember to vote against these congressman/woman AND their representative if they vote for this bill. Unfortunately too many people don't vote and this might sneak by. I have already emailed my politicians and advised them my vote would be going elsewhere if they vote for this bill.

                      If the numbers are true, im glad Americas politicians aren't listening to the people. Ever wonder why we have representetive government? for this reason exactly. I know immigration is a problem at the moment but none of this catastrophic stuff that people are predicting is going to happen. I believe it was either Thomas Jefferson or James Madison who wrote about the threat German immigrants posed to the country, then the Irish, and now its the Mexicans who pose a threat to our well being. Look its a problem but the only way this problem will have any real chance of getting fixed is by allowing SOME illegal immigrants to stay. Not fair to the legal immigrants? Do you really care? I doubt it. My aunt and uncle have been here for 17 years and have not been given citizenship yet, they are the best people in their neighborhood, it would not be right nor beneficial to kick them out.

                        US Congress hire all Native Americans as border guards and INS. Start deporting this year. All immigrants get IDed. If you cannot prove First Nation blood then you will be deported. You get to stay however many years your family has been in the US going back to Colombus.

                          Ivan951-What is your point? There are many nice people out there. Are you saying that the people who are trying to come here legally are not nice people? Usijng your thinking why don't we just allow everybody to immigrate here without restriction? The pols keep talking about fixing the problem, when all that needs to be done is enforce the existing laws. There is no need for new policies. Why do so many want to come here? As I mentioned elsewhere, there is no difference in potential north and south of the border, the difference is in how the people have been governed. That being so, assimilate and come legally if you want to come and get the benefits.

                            Just to follow up. Immigration now is far more of an issue than it was during the times of Jefferson and Madison. The world has nearly doubled in population and with access to current transportation and technologies, crossing a border is far easier and harder to trace now. Something needs to be done about immigration period, if you are too fickle to understand how this can potentially destroy this country then you need to take a deep breath of reality.
