What a moronic comment. First, the libs are against a unified culture - They don't even feel it's necessary for everyone to speak english. Second, the country is already polarized and you can thank the liberal media, including "The Nation", for their contribution to that. If the left has ever done anything to unify the nation, I'd love to hear about it. Third, the writer is whining about desegregation. Like other leftist policies, if the damned thing worked, it would have solved the problem by now. Obviously, like other leftist policies, it didn't work and deserved to be scrapped.
OK, lefties, neg this comment to your hearts content. I won't bother reading your worthless responses.

July 15, 2007, 7:41 a.m.If you really want to understand what court desegregation orders (usually accomplished by busing) did to public schools, look up the statistics for yourself.
Dallas TX Schools:
Court cases started in the 1960s
1970: 57% of the school population was Anglo
One desegregation plan after another was not accepted by the courts through the 70's. Whites began moving out of Dallas or sending their kids to private schools.
By 1979 the Dallas schools were 32% Anglo
In 1981 Judge Sanders issued a Desegregation Plan for the Dallas Schools
2001 TX Comptroller report describes the Dallas ISD as a "majority minority" district
District ethnic composition 2001-02
Hispanic 56.8%
African American 34.3%
Anglo 7.2%
Economically disadvantaged students total 76.1% of the students
Decades of oversight finally came to an end in 2003, when Sanders ruled that DISD was no longer subject to his oversight & was desegregated
In my opinion if this is success, I would hate to see failure
