5 Myths About Terrorism »
Posted by: Aidenag 2 years, 1 month agoSix years after 9/11, all too many Americans still have only a vague idea of what does -- and doesn't -- motivate terrorists. It doesn't help that many politicians exploit the anxiety that terrorism evokes to promote their own agendas. Here are five key urban legends:

Sept. 14, 2007, 10:55 p.m.We are being fed the "terror, terror, terror" script by the politicians, the media and the pundits. We should instead listen to what they say about what is ticking them off. One reason for the target on the back of the US is the support this country has provided for Israel. There might indeed be peace in the middle east if we had kept a hands off policy in the first place, way back when.
Unfortunately, it's too late now.

Sept. 14, 2007, 10:56 p.m.The agendas of individual terrorist groups vary, but their tactical goal is always more or less the same: to sow fear and confusion by deliberately targeting civilians in order to intimidate a country into changing its policies and ways.
Well I guess that sum it up, the Patriot Act IS our surrender docuent.
Good post.

Sept. 15, 2007, 2 p.m.In the execution of such a plan, nothing is more essential than that permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular nations, and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded; and that, in place of them, just and amicable feelings towards all should be cultivated. The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest. Antipathy in one nation against another disposes each more readily to offer insult and injury, to lay hold of slight causes of umbrage,... Hence, frequent collisions, obstinate, envenomed, and bloody contests. The nation, prompted by ill-will and resentment, sometimes impels to war the government, contrary to the best calculations of policy. ... The peace often, sometimes perhaps the liberty, of nations, has been the victim.

Sept. 15, 2007, 3:59 p.m.Im just glad to see someone debunking real myths. It amazes me that people actually fall for and believe these falsehoods, such as terroist coming up from Mexico. As P.T. Barnum once stated, a sucker born every moment. Its sad when you follow the trails of these propaganda lies to some groups adgenda to take advange of violence and tragedy.

Sept. 15, 2007, 7:34 p.m.When you look at historical events and tyranny you will find that nations who would extol their virtues and values over other nations would in the end collapse. America has meddled for far to long and the collapse of a nation is on the horizon. Another Bush ideology will be born, another nation will fall from within, karma.

Sept. 15, 2007, 7:55 p.m.This article hit the mark on most, but, stretched credibility to the breaking mark with number 4. Not only that, but, IF Timothy McVay was such a wonderful Christian, how come the last act he chose was to read "Invictus" on the day he died? Anyone familiar with this poem by Henley, will let you know that this poem is anti-Christian, FULL of defiance toward any charge of "The Scroll", if you know what I mean.

Sept. 15, 2007, 8:18 p.m.Yeah, 9-11, has come and gone again, and the best the Arab muslems could do was, put ol bin laden, out front,on the web, rambling about the US, that dried up, old fart is not so impressive any more.I think a more aggressive approach is needed towards the terrorists groups.

Sept. 15, 2007, 9:51 p.m.Its interesting to note that the two out of three terrorist attacks of note in the U.S were carried out by Americans,McVeigh and Kaczynski, for homegrown reasons and not because of Mideast politics. Their attacks did not cause a huge shift in domestic polices from airport screeners to no-warrant wiretaps to that huge money sucking bureaucracy called Homeland Security. In other words the WTC attacks were over-hyped in order to push a major agenda that had no chance otherwise. We could have gone into Afghanistan wiped out the Taliban AND binLaden and called it a day but that would have to fast to get the "agenda" in place. Solution? simple, invade Iraq

Sept. 15, 2007, 10:03 p.m.Terrorism-in a modern sense is violence or other harmful acts commited (or Threaten) against civilians for politcal or idealogical goals.
History shows that governments use terrorism to scare the people into submission.
Hitler used terrorisom ,to get the people to sacrufice their freedom for security.
So did Liennon and Stalin
George is doing the same thing .
If your affraid of terrorist.
Buy a gun, learn how to use it.
Protect your freedom from not only from terrorist ,but from your own government.

Sept. 15, 2007, 10:30 p.m.An inteligent article by an inteligent person .... only one detail left out
All people think terrorism involves violence and death
wrong: terrorism by defenition means the creation of fear (thereby resulting in others to change their life in an unwanted way to combat those fears)
..... The USA's change in travel policies, internal increase of policing and loss of personal freedoms was the ultimate goal of 9/11 (loss of life was colaterall damadge) ... and the succeded and they won.

Sept. 15, 2007, 10:56 p.m.All five points are well thought out and mostly true. However he failed to take into consideration the current Islamic Terrorism. It's about religion and it's about the Muslim Religion. If the same five points were placed into the context of Islamic Terrorism the facts would tilt differently.

Sept. 18, 2007, 3:39 p.m.This is why we can't win the war on Terror; We can't understand our enemy because of the propaganda.
How are we going to win the war on Terror if we can't come to grips with their reasons to fight.
