General Petraeus, Take Off the Rose-Colored Glasses »

Posted by: david_nwpa 2 years, 1 month ago

Earlier this week, General David Petraeus and Iraq Ambassador Ryan Crocker appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to deliver their report on the war in Iraq. It was a very somber hearing, and I did my best to convey our strong opposition to the President's war in Iraq.

Senator Boxer is correct in her claims that General Petraeus is not viewing the war in Iraq with a clear perception of how bad the situation is there. The people of Iraq are in a civil war; their government is dysfunctional at best according to a report from the GAO. The various regions of Iraq are breaking apart into a Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish region. One would hope the General is not deliberately misleading the people and that he is telling the American people the truth.

However, with so much despair and destruction happening every day over there, it is hard to imagine he is being completely forthright. The time to bring troops home is now.

They are not rose colored glasses. He spews the non-specific

immeasurable political propaganda that his boss tells him to spew. The generalities he presents are unaccountable and impossible to determine at what point there would actually be

accomplishments worthy of justifying our exit..After all, that

(as opposed to excuses and generalities) is supposed to be the goal here, right???

he is the last in a long line of what use to be a very

proud and brilliant chain of military leaders.

      He is our Baghdad Bob!

The smart ones have all gone because of their contempt for this

Bush administration's bungling of international diplomacy and more importantly their unwillingness to listen to those who know what they're talking about and truly love our military..

Alexander Haig was a general too, and who know what a nutcase he was!!

The General views the Iraq war through the lens of his political ambitions. If he can pull this off, he'll be a hero and get elected president.

Bush is a terrorist in his own right. He has tried to run this nation on fear and control based on his ideals. Not that of the Constitution or Bill of Rights. We have to defend ourselves ahgainst this terrorist threat as well as others. General Petraeus is just the tool being used to further Bushes protocols. He could care less about us. Bush has been terrorizing us through his own ideals. We and our children as well as their children will have to live with the consequences. Stop him now> IMPEACH BUSH AND CHEYNEY.

So, only you neocons and the crap you keep spewing are the real patriots of America?! I'd say the 70% majority that you are accusing of being un-American, and trying to destroy our great country, would disagree with you. How dense can you be?! You guys are like that knight in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"...both his arms and legs are cut off and he's still daring the other knight to a fight. "Come here you pansy...fight me...it's only a scratch!"

Give it up! I can respect party loyalty, but I have a hard time swallowing that you all are that stupid that you can't see when you're on the wrong side of the argument! America is now employing and making promises to insurgents (that we were just fighting) to be on our side and fight against other insurgents! What's up with that?!

Foreign fighters make up a tiny portion of the combatants we face in Iraq today. These people, the Iraqis themselves will kick out of their country. They want Iraqis for Iraqis. They don't want a bunch of al Qaeda ideologues killing their local leaders and raping their wives and daughters.

For the most part, out assignment is refereeing a civil war between the Shiia and the Sunnis. This conflict has been going on, sometimes in violent confrontation, sometimes in undercurrents, since the Prophet Mohamed died 1,400 years ago. It takes more than rose colored glasses to think we are going to heal those millennium-old wounds in 6 months or a year or even 10 years. It takes rampant stupidity or outright lying.

For some reason peanut brained libs think that leaving Iraq is an option. We can never leave and we never will. We need to stay to keep a monkey wrench in alqeda and Iranian-syrian operations or they will just consolidate and form up terrorist networks the like the world has never seen. That means murder and slaughter of people everywhere and they just might use nukes if we arent there to stop Iran. So bitch and whine and cry all you dummycrats want just use your lil teeny weeny brains alittle bit and see what the consequences of a cowardly surrender are. Incidentally even your hero, hilarious assbut hilary says she wont pull out the troops so what you going to do now???
