Tattoo remorse fuels booming business »
Posted by: ShadowX 2 years, 2 months agoLaura Hathaway initially had no regrets after getting a tattoo on her lower back when she was 21. But 10 years later she wants it gone. Tattoo regret is common in the United States. Among a group of 18- to 50-year-olds surveyed in 2004, 24 percent reported having a tattoo and 17 percent of those say they want it off

Sept. 18, 2007, 7:52 a.m.If your tatoo is small and nice without showing it just for you, then i think it's cool

Sept. 18, 2007, 8:22 a.m.There's nothing "cool" about any tattoo, regardless of who is wearing it! It makes a woman look a bit trashy!
The simple fact is that only reason that anyone gets a tattoo is to "fit in". They are simply a sign of low self esteem. The lower your self esteem is, the more tattoos you will probably have.

Sept. 18, 2007, 8:30 a.m.Tattoos are a personal choice, I just think most people don't think it through before they take the plunge. It's that whole immediate gratification thing.

Sept. 18, 2007, 8:35 a.m.Yeah,
Those tats that these women put on their lower back, right above their azz are commonly called "Tramp stamps". They are there for their "partners" pleasure...something for them to look at and admire as they do them doggie style.
They are very attractive on some, but on others...not so much.

Sept. 18, 2007, 9:01 a.m.And... with the success of shows such as Miami Ink and the sequel L.A. Ink we should see even more tattoos around. This is not new though. Tattoos has be around--and its regrets--for millennium and it will always exist.

Sept. 18, 2007, 9:20 a.m.That is the price you pay for being impulsive!
It isn't rocket science, there are warnings everywhere if you get a tattoo it is forever! I am 49 and have several and I knew when I got my first one it better be something I like because it is going to be there a long time...........

Sept. 18, 2007, 9:25 a.m.Get drunk and be somebody or get a tatoo and get immediate attention. At least the alcohol will wear off. Tattoos are forever and they don't get better with age.
How about this? If you want recognition, why don't you actually accomplish something?

Sept. 18, 2007, 9:59 a.m.All I can do is laugh, and hope it hurts like hell when those dumbasses have them lasered off. I think the minimum age for getting a tattoo should be 35. Then, there would be at least 17 or so fewer years someone would have left to regret it. (and look like a fool). I think anyone caught applying a tattoo to a person under 18 (REGARDLESS of consent from idiot parents) should be arrested as a felon and imprisoned for a minimum of 5 years. Do you get the impression I think they are really stupid?

Sept. 18, 2007, 11 a.m.I have several tattoo's, and i can tell you i have no issues with self esteem. It is simply part of who i am. I am now in my mid 40's, and when interviewing for an upper management position within my company recently, i was asked if i would get rid of them if i could. I thought for a moment and said no,it is part of who i am and i am not ashamed of who i am. I got the job. My wife also has several tasteful tattoos, and she is not trashy, and you WOULD look twice if you passed her on the street! Granted, many people don't think about the fact that when they are in a different stage of life, they may regret what they have done, but in the end it is a personal choice, just like a hairstyle, or the car you drive.

Sept. 18, 2007, 11:31 a.m.i am 33. i have been collecting tattoos since i was 21 . i have a total of 17. i do not regret a single one .i regret sometimes the artist that put some of them on. all my tats have a story behind them(memorials to friends and family).my thought is "if you don't like tattoos, don't look."tattoos also for me are like therapy .when they are being put on,it relaxes me.so that is my story.

Sept. 18, 2007, 11:42 a.m.Have any of you people very heard "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? I'm a 41 year old mother of 3, State registered daycare provider, Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout Den Leader and I have 2 tattoos with my 3rd one in the process of being designed. The 2 tattoos I have right now are in memory of my Best Friend that was a victim of domestic violence. One is on my ankle and the other is over my heart (Yes, that means it's on my breast!). My next tattoo will will be dedicated to my three children and I am putting it on my lower back. And as far as what I'll think of my tattoos when I'm older, I think that they will be a great conversation started for the nurses in the care center when I'm getting my sponge bath! So the next time you see someone with a tattoo, take the time to get to know them, find out the story behind the tattoo then you can judge. But to make your decision before you do that makes YOU the STUPID one. You might miss your chance to meet a really great person.

Sept. 18, 2007, 12:34 p.m.I will never understand why anyone would get a tattoo removed (other than someone's name). Or why people hate them so much. It's just not that serious. I have one. I always refer to getting it as anti-climactic in the best way. I'm happy I got it, but it was (and is) not that big of a deal. Most times I forget I have one.
For career purposes I got one where it can only be seen at the beach or if I go out of my way to show it to you (no, not lower back). It's for me; not anyone one else. So there goes the whole "fit in" theory.

Sept. 18, 2007, 1:02 p.m.I am a 23 year old woman, I have 5 tattoos, and plan on expanding my collection, this includes finishing a full back piece that I've started. Only one of my pieces is visible while I'm wearing conservative clothing, its on the back of my neck. Every piece I have was not an impulsive choice, every piece has a meaning to me as well with its own symbolism, and was very carefully thought out and designed with care and love. My body is a temple and if I choose to adorn it as such, it is my body after all, let others think whatever they will and to hell with them. Tattoos are not trashy or tasteless unless they are worn by someone who is trashy and tasteless. I wear and show mine with pride, and love. And only speak with the upmost admiration for the artists who have contributed to my skin.
Getting a tattoo is a spiritual experience, no one should ever enter into it lightly.

Sept. 18, 2007, 1:04 p.m.As an art form, tattoos and tattooing are legitimate. But like many of life's decisions, you want to give it careful thought before you do it.
An Art's Center recently held a month long show called, "Art Of The Tattoo." They handed out waterless tattoos bearing the show logo and the date at parades and festivals the month prior to the show opening.
The use of the waterless tattoos combined with the show did a great job of educating people about tattoos, tattooing and the history behind the art form.
On route to go to avoid tattoo regret is to invest in a quantity of waterless tattoos. Wear them. If after a few months you really like it, go for the real thing. Sorta like, test drive before you buy.
But judging people based only on the fact they have a tattoo is extremely short-sighted.

Sept. 18, 2007, 1:13 p.m.Tattoo's are fine. I just wonder why a temporary tattoo wont suffice? In a workplace they can however be a problem. My company asks that all tattoos be covered during working hours. Several women have them on their ankles or calves and cant wear anything but floor length dresses or cover them with makeup. A real drag in the warm weather climate where I live.
I can't see how it would be worth it to mark your body to the point where it affects your employment possibilities.

Sept. 18, 2007, 1:50 p.m.A Tattoo is more than skin deep. Many people get tattoos that have an incrdible meaning to them. For others they are works of art. Many custom artists do reproductions of the masters work on skin. Can you narrow minded people call them ugly<
There is a very sucessful lawyer who has a body suit. The only thing not covered are his hands and feet.No one ever sees them . Is he trying to belong or fit in. I know for a fact he makes over 7 figures a year. How is that for self esteem.Different stokes for different folks. There are some people who think Bush is a Genius but I don't mock them.Nor do I want to talk to them either. If you don't like it, avoid it. The only difference between people with tattoos and without them is people with tattoos don't care if you don't have any!
