Air America Radio host Randi Rhodes was mugged near her Manhattan apartment Sunday night, losing several teeth in a brutal attack that has knocked her off the air while she recuperates, fellow host Jon Elliott announced on his show early Tuesday morning.

This very disturbing to me. Not to rush to judgment, but I agree with John Elliot....This does look suspicious.

It doesn't really sound like a mugging
- it sounds as if it was a BEATING.
I will hope that the NYPD investigates
vigorously and gets results!

Let's just wait until we know more before we jump to any conclusions. I think it is irresponsible of John Elliot to say what he did. That's one reason why the conservatives can get such traction on their lies, slander and half-truths, they can point to things like this.
I agree that it sounds a little strange, but strange things happen every day and not just for political reasons. Let's wait until we get the whole story.

another example of the brave right: attacking a woman in the dark.
and this doesn't sound like any mugging, more like armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. and it could qualify as a hate crime since it does feel targeted and ideological in nature.
I don't think this was ordered from on high, probably just some local rightie chickensh*t haters of the left and of strong women.
but I do think that somewhere the lead coward cheney is cackling with glee.

It seems questionable to me, no purse, walking her dog, and beaten to the point of loosing her teeth.
I have been mugged, had my purse taken, but wasn't touched physically. Unless the mugger was mad that she had no money or just wanted to beat up on someone, it looks very suspicious.

Radio talkshow hosts have been SHOT outside their studios more than once---not just in our country but many other countries. One was just killed in Turkey last year. Anytime you put yourself and your beliefs out there in the public arena, it's a risk. You can unwillingly become a target for all the unbalanced folks out there.
I'm very sorry to read this about RR. She didn't deserve to be beaten by anyone! I'm not her biggest fan---but i certainly would never wish this on her or any of her fellow hosts--not even Rush.
Be suspicious but don't jump to conclusions.

Sad story. It speaks to some issues in our country that one could even conceive the idea, that not only could the crime be politically motivated, but organized by such.
I agree with you, tehranchik, let's not jump to conclusions, or become the thing that we hate.

I just heard on the radio that as of noon today the NYPD is saying that no report has been filed on this "incident". YES, it does sound rather suspicious, doesn't it.

By the way, the story said she was "mugged" which means robbed. Look it up. But it's easier to believe some crazed Republican attacked her, right?

Hmm, I agree with everyone else. Being a former cop, this sounds suspicious. I've heard her show and Randi is as good as gets. This reminds me of Saul Berg, that dude that was killed by the Order

First, I wish her a speedy and complete recovery.
Did she fall? Was she mugged? Was it a random act of violence upon an easy target by someone who hates whites? Any one of those is way more plausible than the idea that she was attacked because she is a liberal talk radio personality.
Bottom line, those who assume it was a conservative who attacked her because of her liberal views are just as wacky as those who assume she planned it herself for the publicity.

To all regular listeners of Rhodes, while she is out, why don't you change the dial and listen to Sean Hannity. He's on at the same time and no, I don't agree with EVERYTHING he says, but he's got a heckuva lot more class than her. His reporting is a lot more straightforward and not everything is a conspiracy to him.

OK, everyone....
I'm going to issue an apology for those who feel like I was deliberately trying to mislead the propeller community.
The truth is, I googled the story when I woke up this morning and I posted it....just as many of you do. And I had no reason to believe that Jon Elliot was talking out of his a** until I came home this afternoon.
I am ashamed only that a story was on the internet at all, given the lack of evidence to substantiate the claim.

Jon Elliot has just started his show apologizing for his emotional reaction and questioning whether a right-wing attack occurred against Randi Rhodes.
Well, he should apologize... He set forth an erroneous rumor.
