Posted By populist 1 year, 8 months ago in NewsThis week Ron Paul introduced the 'American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007' to roll back the power of the federal government by restoring support for the US Constitution. The bill would, among other things, repeal the Military Commissions Act of 2006, prohibits "extraordinary rendition," and the use of secret evidence.

mntnman444: Thank you for the heads up. Important story as I see it. Thank you populist for the posting. I think the American public should force the congress and senate to vote on this. We should not let up. The more I read about Ron Paul. The more I am persuaded he may just be the best candidate. We need to restore constitutional rule to our country. The founding fathers knew the evil that could be wrought by a non-restricted leader. We are just beginning to see it in Bush. The next president could be so much worse.

I'm behind Ron Paul all the way on this. Could he start fixing America? I think he sincerely wants to try. Go Ron.

It's a shame this man is running on the republican ticket. He doesn't stand a chance in the primary, the majority of the conservatives i have talked to are so hyped on Fred Thompson and they think Ron Paul is a loose canon.
If he were to somehow win the primary, he would get my vote.

The thing that bugs me is why does it end up being a republican who is considered a whacko who focuses most on the constitution?Where are the dems? Why isn't reversal of the Bush constitution trashing policies at the center of attention in the dem debates?
I'm gonna be watching Hillary real close on this and I hope she fully supports it,otherwise it will show what kind of politician she really is.

The fact is Ron Paul is the only candidate which stands by the Constitution. Though I wish he could run as a Libertarian and actually get attention, only as a Republican has he had a chance to speak at debates and with the media.
Boy, Mr Kubby is all over the news. /sarcasm
Whatever happens, Dr Paul has put the Republicans on task to either stand up for the Constitution or continue on to fascism.

Make no mistake, Ron Paul has been saying the same thing for decades. His record is crystal clean perfect and consistent. He is as pure as they come.
One of my favorite quotes about Ron Paul, "You're working for the most honest man in Congress." That was John McCain speaking to Kent Snyder in 1988.

And that's my beef with Ron Paul - why go that far, and not go the rest of the way?
If you are going to repeal the Military Commissions Act, why not repeal the War Powers Act, while you are at it?
And simply going back to FISA is half-hearted, at best. Make it clear that no searches, ever cna be made of Americans, or persons of any nationality with the United States, without a warrant, and PROOF of probable cause. Not an affadavit by an FBI agant claiming probable cause, or a 'national security letter' - friggin' EVIDENCE.

One step at a time Obaku---are any of the other candidates stepping up to do or say they'll do anything even close to this? Things didn't become the way they are overnight and it's going to take a long time to fix. Shoot our president is calling for another war because he believes Iran wants to have the knowledge to create nuclear power.
I'm not saying that I disagree with you, I'm just saying that Ron Paul is only one man and look who he's up against. Patience my friend.

FISA is a fair compromise. It simply says that no tap can be made legally without a court order, but that the tap may occur before the court can rule on it. That is not really a crazy idea when you think about it. I would like to see some teeth added to FISA that those who break the law will be prosecuted, even when you are the President.
It must be clear that abusing FISA means that all evidence is void forever, too. We made many enemies in our attempt at empire, so we must stay vigilant until we create a foreign policy of peace and tolerance.

This is one sweet piece of legislation!!! It should be recognized that this is Ron Paul showing the guts to challenge the President's usurpation of executive power!
In the name of the war on terror, the Bush Administration and Congress have repeatedly abandoned Constitutional principles at the expense of civil liberties and human rights. Now if we allow this to continue, we may end up living in a nation that reflects the worst nightmare of our Founders. They designed the Constitution specifically to protect our rights against a tyrannical government. Even in times of crisis, we must stay true to their vision.

Yes, and it also shows precisely the sort of president Ron Paul will be: A Chief Executive who is COMPLETELY mindful of the proper Constitutional limits of his own Office.

Even if this bill doesn't get anywhere, it's a positive step in the right direction for the U.S. Let's get back to Constitutional govt.

You do have constitutional government. The Ron Paul's of the world want the U.S. to be isolationist and are trying to use every legal argument they can possibly find to get it to be so.

In America, people who believe in Freedom, democracy, the Constitution and the rule of law and AMERICANS. Those who yearn for big brother and the secret police are the American haters.
For all those who are so cowardly they can't stand to live in a free society, there is already North Korea fully equipped with Big Brother and a massive spy organization of secret police. Just move there instead of trying to pull down the foundations of our Republic.

I don't know much about Ron Paul so clue me in on something here. Has he drafted change for world trade, putting some jobs and security in the families of America? What are his true views on oil dependence and global warming? How about deliberate inflation and the wealthy paying a fair share of taxes? How about Medical industries and over inflated insurance industries? When we find a candidate that can make laws for the people that keep them able to float a livelihood and reduce the hardships that have been created in the past twenty some odd years then we have the right person for the presidency. His views are good views on the subject of restoring the constitution. Where is the rest of it? Our elected deal in bits and pieces and that is where the legal loopholes are created.

Before you asked these questions, you might have investigated first. Saw him on C-Span last week and then did some checking. He is for small government, for elimination of personal income taxes, not going off on ventures to save the world from itself, and fair trade.

And just where is the media when there is a story as important as this? They're busy talking about Hillary and Obama no doubt. Or the latest escapades of Paris Hilton and OJ.
The media has pretty much lost credibility. This story needs to be trumpeted and shouted from the rooftops. Finally, someone talking about going back to the Constitution and the attention is focused where? They discuss whether or not Bush is a lame duck? Give me a break.
I don't know how we get the media to pay attention to the important stories. They will beat the Larry Craig story to death. But deal with the foundation of our nation? Wimps.
Sycophants.
Why consider what is happening to our nation when there is the dog and Ellen Degeneris to discuss?
Does any of this remind any of you out there of the story about Nero who fiddled while Rome burned? Notice how close "Nero" is to "Neo."
AAGGHH! It's time for a tea party. Where shall we start?

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I have two serious issues with Ron Paul's campaign:
1) His economic policy is disastrous, at best, and;
2) He is garnering a lot of support from both White Supremacist and Neo-Nazi groups.
I doubt anyone could change my mind on the former, but if you want to change my mind on the latter, I'd like to hear it.

I dont agree with everything Paul stands for but the idea of filtering bills through whether they are constitutional should be a practice of all politicians.White supremacists and KKK also base their hate on the bible.
Christians support the kind of treasonous, unchristian people like Bush and Cheney.
I doubt I could change your mind but the constitution needs to be restored and so far,Paul is the only one who even mentions it.

ron's economic proposals would be such an immense change that no one could reliably predict the outcome. besides, congress is so indebted to big money now that they would Never vote to change the system.
for ron paul to talk about significant economic change is wonderful, because it gets the present mess more into the public eye
about neo-nazi support: the first link from huffington is a fair, balanced article that shows the paul campaign is not in any way seeking anything from the crazies. so how can he be held accountable for their actions? the gop establishment will smear him any way they can, and this one is easy.
remember the john birch society? when ronald reagan first talked about running for governor of california, the birchers were so happy that they offered either to publicly support him or publicly condemn him, depending on which one he thought would help him more.

Before I even try to change your mind on his economic policies, I would have to know how you got such a ridiculous idea, and how you describe the currtent economic policies of the United States.
Because his economic ideas would be painful to put into place (especially for those "Fed Heads" lol!), but there is just no easy way out of the current calamitious failure.

I should like to point out that this "story" comes to us via Antiwar.com. That should tell you plainly that the "source" is shady at best.
Ron Paul is a classic example of the types of real pansies registering under the Republican label.
My bigger problem with Ron Paul is the fact that he is proposing that he would NOT fulfill the oath of his office. He would completely abandon important parts of his job description. Namely, he would fail to defend the USA, which is the primary responsibility of the federal government.
The only reason the "drive-by media" loves him is because he is "going against the grain" of the Republican party. He has become one of those beloved "mavericks."
Perhaps someone should clue Ron Paul in on what happened to another "maverick" named John Mccain.

What a dumbass remark. Ron Paul is and has been a republican representative in Texas from as far back as '76.
"Namely, he would fail to defend the USA,....."
More imbecilic bullsht. There is no one more committed to the TRUE defense of the USA than Paul. Where do you find your ignorance -- the Limbaugh show, or Sean Hannity?

Baloney. Self-defense doesn't extend 5000 miles from the border.
Try defending yourself in court with 'self-defense' when you fire bomb somebody's home in the next state because they bad mouthed you. You couldn't even make it work if you could PROVE, beyond a reasonable doubt, that they had hired a hitman. Self-defense just doesn't go that far.

"White supremacists and KKK *falsely* base their hate on the bible."
Thought I would fix that for you so it would be closer to being factually correct.
"Christians support the kind of treasonous, unchristian people like Bush and Cheney."
While you are at it, why don't you add... "Bush lied. Kids died." Now you sound like the rest of your friends.
And, to borrow a line from the Democrats, what makes you "qualified" to comment on what is "treaonous" and "unchristian"? Do you have any "experience" as a Christian?
Treason is classified as "giving AID and COMFORT to the enemies of the United States for the purpose of defeating the USA." Perhaps you should be looking at the Democrats for examples of treason.

And Bush is the recruiting poster child for our enemies,I call that giving aid and comfort.

One need look no further than you for the perfect example of treason -- an enemy to the USA of the "domestic" variety.

I thought John Kerry was the worst traitor ever to disgrace this country, until I discovered that our own government was behind the destruction of the Twin Trade Towers and the attack on the Pentagon, with Israeli help. It was another Reichstag fire on a greater scale, and I do not believe anyone was killed in the Reichstag fire.
This false flag terrorism was just a pretext to defeat all nations preventing the establishment of Greater Israel. To the Jewish Zionists, this was an end in itself. To the Christian Zionists, Greater Israel was a prerequisite for the Rapture, the seven years of tribulations, the battle of Armageddon and finally, the Second Coming of Jesus. Welcome to the middle ages.

To the vast majority of our politicians the Constitution is an archaic piece of paper that has little or no relevance in today's world of 'Capitalist Monarchies' and 'religious terrorist cabals'. I wish R.Paul luck but I think the serious money, national and international corporations, is against him; imagine, giving POWER back to the American voter via the Constitution of the US; what a frightening idea.
Reply-

ETproductions1 year, 8 months ago
I'm assuming you are saying that tongue in cheek. I just spent a few minutes imagining it, and it didn't frighten me at all. In fact, just the opposite. The idea delighted me. What frightens me is that so many people call themselves good Americans yet oppose the very foundation this free nation is built upon.

Not that I would need to write, but just in case Rep. Michael Capuano doesn't support the 'American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007' I have written him. I hereby Pledge to take names and numbers. If this reaches the house floor, I will contribute money and efforts writing to defeat ALL who vote against it. If it gets snagged in committee, I will do the same to those who work to keep it off the House floor.
I encourage all who love freedom and believe in the Constitution to join me in that pledge.
