Oct. 26, 2007, 6:16 p.m."Despite repeated Turkish demands for more action from both the United States and Iraq, Major General Benjamin Mixon, the top U.S. military commander in northern Iraq, said he planned to do "absolutely nothing" to counter Kurdish rebels operating from the region."
Absolutely nothing seen to be what the current administration does best.

Oct. 26, 2007, 7:10 p.m.Although the article calls them rebels and guerrillas, I can't tell the difference between the PKK and terrorists. If the US is engaged in a world-wide war against terror, and especially since it's the occupying force in Iraq, why doesn't it go after these terrorist? Is it only certain kinds of terrorists it's interested in? Is it that as long as terrorists kill citizens of other nations it's OK, but when they start to kill Americans then the whole world must unite against them? Or how is it?

Oct. 26, 2007, 9:37 p.m.This cat is growing one more leg.
It is a kitty with already more than the normal number of limbs and sometime Mr Bush will have to decide how to surgerize the monster.
Would we sympathize with the Turks, The Kurdish, The Shiites or the Sunnis ?
Which fraction should have our young soldiers loose their lives for ?

Oct. 27, 2007, 8:37 a.m.I am glad there is a bit of talking going on but likely the truth is that deals are being made. In the end I hope that the Turks aren't allowed to just walk in and claim the northern part of Iraq, it would be sad to see more American lives lost because of misguided policy.
As for the comment about whining, after many innocent people died in the 9/11 event the world did rally behind the U.S. and shortly after that a war was started by a government who chose to lie to the whole world. I think that the world would still rally to the aid of the American people but maybe not to the aid of the American government.

Oct. 27, 2007, 11:59 a.m.i'd like to know if the international community can see the difference between the american people and the american state.
my bets on no.
LIBS, the only thing you seem to be against is difference of opinion. why do you hate free speech so much?
why can't you take the shame of this administration gracefully like bush or cheney?
and even they have already admitted that they screwed up in thinking that a wimp like hussein had weapons.
he was no more threat than we needed him to be

Oct. 27, 2007, 5:38 p.m.The Kurds and the Basque are in much the same situation - they have been fighting for self-determination for decades, and the national governments they have been fighting are using 'the War on Terror' for all its worth to justify their continuing repression.
And they are not the only ones.

Oct. 27, 2007, 6:43 p.m.Personally I am awaiting another House of Representative act, this time decrying Rome's barbaric acts against Christians. Have they nothing better to do than act the fool as they always do. Pelosi and Reed are in tune with Bush, ineptitude and oblivious to what is occurring in the world.
The Kurds and Turkey should resolve their own problems and America should stay out of their affairs but No, the U.S. wants to be the world power broker and squander all that was achieved over a hundred years. Why can't we stay out of nation's business unless we are attacked first. Our leaders on both sides are little kiddies attempting to find their place on the world stage while illegal immigration, exporting middle class American jobs, unfair trade etc. goes unchallenged. Bush is a moron and I will repeat it daily and Betray Us is still a Betrayer.

Oct. 28, 2007, 8:31 p.m.My God...I have figured out who Saint really is....Saint is the reincarnation of Ayn Rand...what he just said is almost verbatim from Atlas Shrugged...such self-centeredness believing we are the greatest...what arrogance...hopefully Saint's kind make up less than 1% of that total 20% that still support Shrub
