Today the movement shows signs of coming apart beneath its leaders. It is not merely that none of the 2008 Republican front-runners come close to measuring up to President Bush in the eyes of the evangelical faithful, although it would be hard to find a cast of characters more ill fit for those shoes: a lapsed-Catholic big-city mayor; a Massachuset

I'm realy pleased to see a renewed focus on social justice issues from the Evangelical Christian community, as depicted in the article; it's good to see that there is a sense of making this world a better place.

Hopefully people are wising up to Evangelical Christian leaders with agendas that have nothing to do with spirituality.

A term under Hillary should fix that.

Amen! Finally, they begin to think about Christianity. I'm with you, Shadowolf.

I am so sick of this "holier than thou" approach to politics. Let the church leaders focus on how people can live a caring and christian life for themselves instead of how to get others to live by the tenets of evangelicals.

Thank you Death Ray for posting this. Long, but worth the read.

                Amazing:

I with you on that "holier than thou" crapola. I've noticed that the people who spend the most amount of time preaching to others about familty values are generally the most perverted screwballs on earth.

I think both sides, religion and politics have their casualties, people of faith falling prey to some bad politics, and possibly some politicans that may have been good leaders falling prey to some bad religious folks. Good in a way that some people fall off their high horse, It's also sad.

I listen to a fundamentalist Christian radio station's afternoon show nearly every day, and the host refuses to recognize Wallis as an evangelical because he's not in goosestep with the rest of the religious reicht...
