Rudy a Lefty? Yeah, Right. »
Posted By Beau7890 1 year, 8 months ago in NewsThe case for Giuliani's moderation rests mainly on three overblown issues -- guns, gay rights and abortion -- and even in those cases, his deviation from conservative orthodoxy is far milder than is usually suggested. If you've managed to keep liking President Bush, you'd have no trouble loving President Giuliani.

Pay no attention to the fear-mongering and lying coward behind the curtain.
I mean, his kids don't even like him! Why should we?

Also, anyone who thinks that torture is fine and dandy is neither a moderate, nor a liberal.

Snowflake Rudy is creature of convenience and fakery.
The guy just tells lies and then spends a lot of time defending them.
Ask any Fireman in New York City, and he will tell you what he really thinks of him.
He will steal anybody's credit if it helps him!
Here is a very interesting point: He constantly reminds us of his "bravery and leadership" in the post 9/11 period in NYC. He was appointed to the 9/11 Commission, BUT NEVER ATTENDED A SINGLE MEETING, AND WENT AWOL FROM DAY 1. The Commission had to warn him that he will lose his membership, and even then he was hiding, making millions on his "Consulting business on Terrorism Security" in cohouts with Bernie Keric, the ex-New York Police Commissioner who is target of criminal investigation for his dirty deeds!
Snowflake Rudy has about as much substance as a snowflake in Summer.
The guy is a phony!
Go ahead and nominate him, if you want another disaster in the White House!

The perception that Giuliani is a liberal Republican is also indicative of our times. After seven years of an extreme right wing government, any candidate that
supports restrictions on guns, gay rights, and is pro-choice would appear liberal.
But don't forget the exaggeration of these same issues is the neoconservative's election strategy; fan the flames of discord over religious and social issues in order to split the anti-war and pro-universal health advocates from voting against the Republican ticket.
"I support marriage between a man and a woman!"
God help us if those kind of inane platforms effectively polarize Americans again and deter our nation from addressing the most urgent issues.
Appealing to the prejudices and differences of the electorate only serves the power-hungry politicians; in essence it reflects a government that cares nothing about the state of the union.

The fanciful notion of Giuliani's liberalism also omits the piece de resistance of his mayorship: his flagrantly undemocratic bid to stay in office for an extra three months after Sept. 11, 2001. During earlier crises, even World War II, U.S. elections had always managed to proceed normally. But Giuliani maneuvered for weeks to remain mayor after his term-limited exit date. Only as normalcy returned to New York did his power grab fail.
Finally, don't forget foreign policy, which has become a social issue in these parlous times. In pledging to carry on the Bush legacy abroad -- seeking to assuage Americans' feelings of vulnerability through brazen nationalism and the ready use of force -- Giuliani taps the same emotions he did with his crusades against crime and vice: a sense that a frustrated people want a no-nonsense leader who will buck the weak-kneed worrywarts, be they urban school officials or Democrats who flinch at warrantless wiretapping.

My favorite: "But he then converted his religious sensibilities into policy, unilaterally withholding a $7 million city subsidy to the Brooklyn Museum of Art." So flippin' what? The museum has a right to display, but the government has no obligation to fund or endorse.
And it is all academic - Rudy won't be the nominee; as soon as other candidates drop out their support will go to anyone but Rudy. I still think Hillary's worst nightmare, Mike Huckabee, is going to get the nomination.

deathray,
aniokly has a point. The sentence "Go ahead and nominate him, if you want another disaster in the White House!" implies that nomination = election, even though it probably wasn't intended that way.

LOL!
You don't live in Arkansas, do you?
Having lived through the Huckabee governorship, I can tell you that a Huckabee presidency would be a disaster. Accomplishments like ARKids were won with Democrats in our legislature drugging Huck kicking and screaming.
He since became what many may say is a "compassionate conservative," but he doesn't believe in evolution and he also thinks that the Earth is only about 6000 years old.
Nope. Nutball....

Quite an effort to defend the ovewhelming "coincidences"; would'nt you say? Jeb Bush, the governor of the state, that "gave" George the Presidential election: just another one of those coincidences. Friends with the bin Ladens ... just another one of those coincidences.
(Someone's peeing on your leg and and trying to convince you that it's raining.)
Dick Cheney, former Chief Officer of Haliburton, the biggest contractor in Iraq given 3 monstrous contracts that have ripped off Taxpayers to the tune of 2.7 billion.
There's a long list of coincidences.

If Rudy wins the Republican nomination, all of the "Rudy is a liberal" talk from his social conservative critics will get drowned out by the Democrats painting him as an ultra right winger.

There was also an article on Jim Webb of Virginia in the Washington Post.
I like this guy, even though he's a Democrat and I think he is going to be a player in Presidential politics, if not soon, then later.
He reminds me of Sam Nunn, whom I consider to be a Statesman; a man who put America ahead of politics.

Rudy needs to stay in local politics.
"Ruby a Lefty?", only Rudy knows for sure!
Thanks DR, for the headsup on this posting!
Thanks Beau, enjoyed reading the article!

Rudy Giuliani's an authoritarian warhawk determined to continue Bush's failed foreign policy...not to mention the continued "Big Brother" surveillance of American citizens.
This will be his undoing and the undoing of the Republican Party as well. Most Americans are waking up to the reality that this war is a mistake. The intrusion on our privacy bothers more than those who think you've "got nothing to hide" will ever acknowledge. The religious nuts among us DO see Rudy as too liberal on the big three GAG social issues (Guns, Abortion, and Gays) and they will NOT vote for him. The GOP cannot win without that part of the base as a part of its uneasy coalition with greedy bastards and warmongers.
If the Democrats are foolish enough to nominate Hillary Clinton, I will vote for a 3rd party candidate if Rudy wins the GOP nomination. Hillary will win the election. If she moves to stop the war, I will support her in that endeavor as president.
But I won't hold my breath.

Rudy Giuliani has always built his support base on fear and oppression of an "outside" group. When he was District Attorney, he built his name by "taking on" the Italian Mafia. The genteel old Dons were locked up, and their violent young sons took over, which was no improvement. When Rudy ran for Mayor, he used code words to race-bait David Dinkins, he would incite crowds of policemen and firefighters, with little thought of the riots and violence that could result. As Mayor of New York City, Giuliani sent policemen to beat the homeless out of the city. Giuliani is a bully, and he attacks only the weak.
Now the Catholic Giuliani, married to the Jewess Judy Nathan, is positioning himself as the candidate of the Evangelical "conservatives".
That they have supported this move shows the reality - that White Evangelical "conservatives" are a White Power group. They are not concerned with religion or morality.

Rudy fits the Republicans quite well. Keep in mind that Bush's pandering to the social conservatives is mainly for show. The Republican appointees were the ones who voted in Wade v. Roe. Rudy simply has thrown the show out without much apparent affect.

If you like to see his judgment, consider the shady characters he has gathered together for his campaign!
You probably know that he recommended his buddy Bernie Keric, the ex-Commissioner of Police of NYC. During his background check, the FBI found a lot of dirty deeds and criminal activities. He is being investigated for those crimes!
Now he keeps some distance between himself and Bernie!
Someone said it here that he is a bully! That is an understatement! His father was a part of NYC Mafia, and Rudy has learned a few things from that.
He is only good at self- promotion!

I am sorry I missed part of the statement:
Snowflake Rudy had recommended Bernie for the post of Secretary of Homeland Security - the largest bureaucracy created in the history of our nation!
I think we should thank our lucky stars that FBI found some really serious criminal issues in his background, and his name was withdrawn!
