Nov. 1, 2007, 4:57 p.m.And don't forget Foxglove (Digitalis), Datura, Oriental poppy, and many others. Nice to smell and look but don't eat them. :-)
Don't know about the oak reference in the article. Tannic acids can be washed out with water and one species, the Basket oak, is low in tannins and sweet tasting - at least the one I tried.

Don't be fooled, the number of fairly common plants that are noxious is much larger. Not usually an issue, but if you are having a baby, or small children over to visit, it is wise to check on all your houseplants, and the garden as well. many 'ornamentals' are poisonous to one degree or another, but they are of course attractive, and small children do often like to put the pretty things in their mouths, so... take precautions.

Nov. 6, 2007, 12:13 a.m.Poinsettia too. That's supposed to be poisonous and philodendron. Be careful your pets don't eat the stuff.
