Nov. 2, 2007, 8:51 a.m."The woman was arrested for transporting her boyfriend, who was an illegal alien, said the Rev. Miguel Rivera, president of the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders.
Under the law, which went into effect at midnight, it is a felony to knowingly transport an illegal alien."
The headline is kind of misleading, it sounds like she was mistakenly arrested. It's illegal to transport an illegal alien, she transported an illegal alien. She broke the law and deserves to be arrested.

Nov. 2, 2007, 8:53 a.m."''We are going to continue transporting our fellow Latinos no matter their status,'' Rivera said."
So not only do they come here illegally, they then plan to continue flaunting our laws. Not surprising.

Nov. 2, 2007, 9:18 a.m.Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007:
"The State of Oklahoma finds that illegal immigration is causing economic hardship and lawlessness in this state and that illegal immigration is encouraged by public agencies within this state that provide public benefits without verifying immigration status. The State of Oklahoma further finds that illegal immigrants have been harbored and sheltered in this state and encouraged to reside in this state through the issuance of identification cards that are issued without verifying immigration status, and that these practices impede and obstruct the enforcement of federal immigration law, undermine the security of our borders, and impermissibly restrict the privileges and immunities of the citizens of Oklahoma."

Nov. 2, 2007, 9:28 a.m.While I don't "know" American law, surely the words "illegal immigrant" mean that this woman was "aiding and abetting" in an illegal act... Ergo, breaking the law ?

Nov. 2, 2007, 9:42 a.m.This part relates to the article:
"A.It shall be unlawful for any person to transport, move, or attempt to transport within the United States any alien knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that the alien has come to, entered, or remained in the United States in violation of law, in furtherance of the illegal presence of the alien in the United States.
B.It shall be unlawful for any person to conceal, harbor, or shelter from detection any alien in any place, including any building or means of transportation, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that the alien has come to, entered, or remained in the United States in violation of law.
C.Any person violating the provisions of subsections A or B of this section shall, upon conviction, be guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections for not less than one (1) year, or by a fine of not less than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), or by both such fine and imprisonment."

Nov. 2, 2007, 9:45 a.m.Another good part:
"All identification documents as provided for in paragraph 3 or 4 of subsection A of this section shall be issued only to United States citizens, legal permanent resident aliens, or holders of valid unexpired nonimmigrant visas."

Nov. 2, 2007, 9:47 a.m.This section addresses crime and drunk driving:
"A. When a person charged with a felony or with driving under the influence pursuant to Section 11-902 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma Statutes is confined, for any period, in the jail of the county, any municipality or a jail operated by a regional jail authority, a reasonable effort shall be made to determine the citizenship status of the person so confined."

Nov. 2, 2007, 9:55 a.m.Howrah!! That minister forgot a teaching of Jesus. Give to Caesars that which Caesars and to God that which is Gods.
He doesn't seem to understand the word illegal. Of course the left chooses to use the word undocumented instead. Trying to make it seem they are legal but just don't have the documents.

Nov. 2, 2007, 9:57 a.m.This law is strict but fair.
"C. Verification of lawful presence under the provisions of this section shall not be required:
1. For any purpose for which lawful presence in the United States is not restricted by law, ordinance, or regulation;
2. For assistance for health care items and services that are necessary for the treatment of an emergency medical condition, as defined in 42 U.S.C. Section 1396b(v)(3), of the alien involved and are not related to an organ transplant procedure;
3. For short-term, noncash, in-kind emergency disaster relief;
4. For public health assistance for immunizations with respect to diseases and for testing and treatment of symptoms of communicable diseases whether or not such symptoms are caused by a communicable disease; or..."

Nov. 2, 2007, 10:42 a.m.I have a real problem with illegals being given benefits paid for by our tax dollars, and/or being given SS benefits, which has also been a topic of discussion of late.
Refugees are eligible for all the same benefits as any citizen. While i really don't have a problem with that, i still don't think they should be given SSI, which many receive as soon as they get here.
Since the US is a 'melting pot', it's my opinion that there should be a separate funding set up for just such purposes, not to DIP into the programs paid for by hard working citizens. That's a large part of what's depleteing our SS reserves now.
In Ky, we have so few NIC workers, unless there is a rape, murder, or some equally heinous crime committed by an illegal, there is NO recourse taken against illegals. This also seems to be the case in most states.

Nov. 2, 2007, 11:09 a.m."Under the law, which went into effect at midnight, it is a felony to knowingly transport an illegal alien." If it's against the law to transport them why not charge her? She broke the law, let's really make an example out of her.
We're seeing huge increases in every social program when illegal aliens come to town. Not only with the crime rates but school, hospital, welfare, food stamps, and any thing else that is available. You want to get control, start deporting them. For the churches and non-profit groups trying to hide them, their actions are politically motivated, remove them from the tax exempt status. Hide, transport or knowingly hire illegals, go to jail.

Nov. 2, 2007, 1:31 p.m.Send them home.....
There are indeed those who deserve protection & sanctuary from brutal & oppresive dictatorial regimes, let them in & give them the care that they both need & deserve. For the rest, either get legal or get out !

Nov. 2, 2007, 3:16 p.m.The only "wrong" here is that the state of Oklahoma has been forced to deal with the illegals because of the failure of the Bush administration to enforce the laws. And as I heard Hillary say "comprehensive immigration reform" - which seems to be code for "amnesty" - the other night, it was clear she Bush are reading from the same script.

Nov. 2, 2007, 5:34 p.m.What part of the law doesn't this woman understand? It is illegal to transport illegal aliens. Excuse me, she broke the law, period.

Nov. 2, 2007, 6:08 p.m.Must always prompt my post with, I'm an independent. Hillary, Spitzer and the rest of the Democratic party are attempting subversion on the American electorate. DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!! They think by subverting our immigration laws they can enhance voter registration with illegal voting Democrats. I despise most Republican and Democratic candidates, rather an advocate for an Independent person. Beware of Shillery and the Democrats who are similar in nature to a Republican, both should be voted out. They represent their party not the average American.
Americans deplore both the man now in office and the job performance of our Representatives (they represent themselves) so why put them back in office?

Nov. 2, 2007, 7:14 p.m.If you are illegal you are illegal. If I was caught without a VISA in Mexico I would be in jail so save your sanctimonious lies for another. Enter legal and you WILL be welcomed, come illegal and you are illegal. "Simple".
Democrats despise Nader since they use him as an excuse for their moronic policies in not getting the Presidency and now they wish for illegals to rectify America's choices.

Nov. 2, 2007, 7:26 p.m.I say we should make an example out of this woman. We need to Enforce Our Laws and Protect Our Borders. As for immigration reform, we need to tell Washington that we want Border Enforcement First.

Nov. 2, 2007, 8:20 p.m.You need laws that are going to be enforced,my sons geirlfriend is going to university down in the states and I have been catching alot of flack about him wanting to go down and get a job so he can be near her. He has found someone who will give him a job and pay him under the table. my warning to him has been if he gets caught he will be deported and no more girlfriend. What bothers me is how easy it was for him to find a job illegally, I guess no one is to concerned about getting caught, maybe if they go after this person other may smarten up.
