Mukasey Is (Much) Worse Than Gonzales »

Posted by: ProudBlueTexan 2 years ago

The Nation -- George Bush's nominee to replace disgraced former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, retired Federal Judge Michael B. Mukasey, must be rejected by the Senate Judiciary Committee for the same reason that Gonzales should have been rejected in 2005.

Democrats, independents and reasonable Republicans (if there are any left) should stand up against this nomination.

scott4261: Sadly I think the Dems. who are supporting this are seeking to open a door for the next president. They believe will be Hillary. This stinks. It is so unamerican it makes me want to stop paying any taxes to these clowns who do what they do for their own reasons. Just start telling them NO!!!!!! You may be the government but you are elected. Lets start the recall procedures now. These so called governbent ( meant to spell it that way) officials are out of control. Who'll join in and call for the ouster of these yahoo's.

The democratic party is no prize, but in comparison...one good look at what the Republican Party has done to this country in the past seven years should be enough of a deterrent to put a democrat in the white house and to give the boot to more Republican legislators.

There is no honor among these thieves.

Regardless of party affiliation, to confirm another Attorney General who is berift of loyalty to the rule of law, but will uncategorically stand by a rogue and lawless administration is no different than hiring a body guard from the mafia.

Yes, this is more of the same -- or worse

CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW AND TELL THEM THEY WILL LOSE YOUR VOTE THIS COMING ELECTION SHOULD THEY VOTE FOR MUKASEY'S CONFIRMATION.

If your not the super rich, you do not count in this corporacracy. The Democrats are (even though not good)a 100 time better than the Republicans!!

In re: Mukasey, Chuck Schumer sounds strangely like a thoughtful man of reason. From where I stand, it is relief.

                    * Biden is running for President and may run in both races in Delaware. He may retire from the Senate. Cochran (R-MS) and Stevens (R-AL) could join Biden. Five senators â;; Allard (R-CO), Warner (R-VA), Hagel (R-NE), Craig (R-ID), and Domenici (R-NM) â;; have announced their retirements.

This really does make me worry even more about this Great country.

Is it just me or are the scum of the earth taking over our country and runing it. Where in the world do they keep coming from. Hasn't the bottom of the barrel been scraped clean yet?

Contact your Senators (especially those who are up for re-election) and demand that they speak out against torture. Ask them to vote against this nomination). The vulnerable Senators are more likely to change their votes, but contact them all. Now is the time to put the pressure on.

Good suggestion Scott; but time is running out. It reminds me of running a car on no oil and wondering how much damage will take place before you reach your next pit stop.

(Bad analogy... we have a lot of gunk in this engine!)

What can be done to take away the authority of the President to make recess appointments?

Could it be legislated that such appointment can only be valid until the Congress comes back to town, AND NOT UNTIL THE NEXT CONGRESS IS SWORN IN?

It is time we stopped this underhand practice of doing an end run around the principle of advice and consent.

As far as I recollect, all recess appointments have been disastrous!
