Suicide Bombing Makes Sick Sense in 'Halo 3' »

Posted By Neophile 1 year, 8 months ago in Arts & Entertainment

"A lot of teenage kids out there play dozens of hours of multiplayer Halo a week. They thus become insanely good at the game: They can kill me with a single head shot from halfway across a map. I can't do those things. So after a few weeks of this ritual humiliation, I got sick of it. And I devised a simple technique for revenge..." [via

My old roommate was one of those wanks that would just sit around all day and play halo. He was insane and it wasn't even fun to play with him... but for some reason I always thought "Well maybe I'm getting better...". Nope. So I resorted to this sort of tactic. I too have a life and can't play more than 1 hour of halo per week. I definitely never "practiced".

This tactic was also good if you were playing "rockets" as your explosive suicide death didn't count against you if I remember right.

Good read though. Nice to know that there are people who play video games that actually have jobs not flipping burgers.

When I first started playing "Pro" Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, I used to get frustrated when the best of the best would run towards me with a grenade in hand, and then press their suicide button right after throwing the ready-to-explode grenade right at my face.

Apparently it's a good tactic to use when you're just about to commit suicide to respawn with more ammunition, if you're going to /kill, why not take out some enemies at the same time?

Don't Halo 3 has aimbot like in unreal tournament? Just use it and shoot the hell out of those crazy 10-year-old kids. But be prepared to be called lamebot by other players.

Suffice the say, the example in the video game Halo 3 actually has roots in the real world battlefield that is the Middle East.

Think about it; our firepower and skill advantage over the insurgents and terrorists is so high, they have no choice but to resort to tactics like suicide bombing.

If you can't fight fair, fight ugly.

And just as in the game, they don't fear death. To you it's just a game. To them it's a ticket straight to heaven, which must be better than the life they are living...

Let's draft all of these kids and see how they do in a real life war.

If war is ever digitized to a point where someone can control a tank or gun from a 1,000 miles away, I think they will do better then most adults. Armies will be made of children as gaming vastly improves hand/eye coordination.

I play halo maybe an 1 hour every other day and yes, i have a real life job and wife yet I still manage to beat down the vast majority of those who play against me. However, I would consider this a more "natural" talent as I have been a casual gamer (not playing hours on end) since Atari first came into existence.

My question, does the author of this article (or anyone who employs such tactics mentioned)actually find the online gaming enjoyable this way? I can see this working on a few maps in the game, however, a majority of the maps are large open fields to which a BR or any long range weapon would make the suicide strategy worthless.

My advice would be to work on your long-range game or employ the use of vehicles. Much can be done without having to get dangerously close to your opponent.

As a father of two kids who play this game, I found this article amusing. My kids have been trying to get me to play but as in the past on other games, they would destroy me in a matter of minutes. I now have a secret tactic to take them out in the game because they are not going to see this article. As to the idiots above (agentx, kobzikow, etc.) who try to bring the real world into a video game, GET A LIFE! This is a funny article about a video game. It seems like there is always a bunch of morons who try to look for the meaning of life from a video game, tv show, or a movie. These are forms of entertainment, not the basis for living. My kids and I use these to be entertained and to take a break from the real world for a short period of time. Stop living your life through video games, tv shows, and movies and join the real world. Maybe you will live a more fullfilling life and become an asset to society.
