Alaska GOP: 'I'll Sell My Soul to the Devil' »
Posted by: Aidenag 1 year, 12 months agoOn another tape, Pete Kott, the former Republican speaker of the Alaska House of Representatives, crowed as he described beating back a tax bill opposed by oil companies. "I had to cheat, steal, beg, borrow and lie," Kott said. "Exxon's happy. BP's happy. I'll sell my soul to the devil."

Nov. 12, 2007, 6:15 a.m.I'd be willing to bet that this is going on in almost every state and certainly in Washington, DC. Politicians, as a group, are slime balls. This group in Alaska is just more stupid than most because they got caught.

Nov. 12, 2007, 7:15 a.m.FTA: "The probe has delivered low humor as well as bad behavior. In one exchange the FBI captured by wiretap, Allen handed a sexual potency pill and a sleeping pill to Kott -- who later phoned, confused and upset, after mixing them up."
I sure hope the public gets access to this audio wiretap clip. It's a comedy writers wet dream.

Nov. 12, 2007, 8:37 a.m."I had to cheat, steal, beg, borrow and lie," Kott said. "Exxon's happy. BP's happy. I'll sell my soul to the devil."
You sold your soul when you first decided to run for public office.
That phrase, "power corrupts" is only partially true. These crooked and bent politicians already were corrupt souls just waiting for an opportunity.

Nov. 12, 2007, 8:50 a.m.After this maybe Chicago can finally shed its reputation for having the most corrupt politics in the country.

Nov. 12, 2007, 9:05 a.m.Im still waiting for AG to hit with the your taking this all out of context, that isnt what he meant. Mainly because even the devil couldn't match the money being paid to the GOP by Big Oil.

Nov. 12, 2007, 9:22 a.m.Tom Anderson was given five years for taking money from a consultant for a company hoping to build a prison in Alaska.
Little did he know that he would soon become an inmate! LOL
"The Republican lawmaker's only previous brush with the law came when his girlfriend, a fellow legislator, summoned police as they fought over bowling scores."
These greasy characters must be missing a few pins.

Charming...glad to see these are the kinds of people chosen to lead our legislatures...

Nov. 12, 2007, 9:50 a.m.The arrogance of power must not impact ones conscience! The corruption just never ends.
Things are likely to get very hot shortly. Granting one some of the privileges of selling ones soul to the devil.
Thanks DR for the headsup on this article.
Thanks Mark, great find.
Now, this is the second time I have posted a comment, hope this one makes it this time! I had to login again as well.

Nov. 12, 2007, 10:10 a.m.This has taken extortion, bribery, and greed to a whole new level of lowness for the GOP.
They really need to change their "Christian Right, family Values" slogan at this point. Even the extreme right wingers shouldn't fall for it anymore.
OMG, willing to sell their souls to the Devil for a few hundred dollars. That is greed at it's best.

Nov. 12, 2007, 2:19 p.m.2/24/2006: First the voters of Alaska were not allowed to see their own voting data from the 2004 Election because it was the proprietary "company secret" property of Diebold.
Then they would be allowed to see it as long as the state and Diebold could "manipulate the data" before releasing it.
And now finally it's determined that allowing the voters to see how they actually voted in the 2004 Election would be a "security risk" to the state of Alaska.
The state Democratic party has been attempting since December of last year to review the Diebold GEMS tabulator data files from the 2004 election in order to audit some of the strange results discovered in the state, including a reported voter turnout of more than 200% in some areas.

Nov. 12, 2007, 2:36 p.m.So much for being voted to office "by the people", so that you can serve "everyone but the people", in the name of the people.
So long that the voters allows this to go on, and repeatedly reelect these kind of representatives, why should we be surprised at the direction the economy and politics that follows.
On a side bar, the world is watching us, so why are we surprised at the fierce opposition when we try to export our form of democracy? We are in dire need of cleaning up our own house before tackling the problems of our neighbors.

Nov. 12, 2007, 4:13 p.m.I think we'd all be a little more surprised if there was a GOP member who HADN'T sold their soul to the devil.

Nov. 12, 2007, 5:46 p.m.WOW! I have no soul because I'm a Republican?
Geeze what a thing to learn after all this time.
I love puppies, clean air and water, I like the planet clean,,,,, I give to the needy,,,,, and all the other things I thought would denote that I indeed have not only a soul but a kind one,,,,,, yet some think I lack one because of voting for a different party than they do,,,,,, how simple incredulous is that?
The worse thing is finding out that's how some here feel that I actually respected,,,,,, it's pretty unnerving just how deep the 'them versus us' thing goes in politics,,,, especially in election years.
I guess it's time to start the soulless evil monkey club,,,,,, I'm gonna put a few chicken feet in a can of blood and work a few evil spells I learned from someone in the Louisiana swamp,,,,,, we evil, soulless types have to do something with our time,,,,,, someone remind me to cancel my check I just sent to the needy,,,,,,

Nov. 12, 2007, 6:15 p.m.I hope that no-one ever claims that US elections are free again - as the evidence shows, you pay cash on the barrel-head for every vote in Congress!
Gotta love Big Money.

Nov. 12, 2007, 7:38 p.m.Come on, lets stop the name game! We should be cognizant of the fact that too many of our political figures are on the take. So what if one is a democrat and the other is a republican and another is an independent. These politicians found guilty of such acts needs to be sent to prison. Not only have they broken the law but they have betrayed the voters of this country. To stop the companies from paying out these bribes we should consider fining them 500 Million dollars and bar them from ever bidding on any government job and from coming into any contact, directly or indirectly, with any politician or his/her agent. This might stop it. It's a start anyway!

Nov. 12, 2007, 8:30 p.m.It's not like we didn't know that this bunch was crooked, I just wish that the dems would get nailed every chance they get. I know there is corruption in all political ;evels, but we need more investigations like this one going on at all times. By the way, harsher sentences won't bother me a bit either!

Nov. 12, 2007, 9:22 p.m.corruption? let's not forget slick willy selling all sort of our countries secrets to the chicoms during his years at the white house and all the money the chicoms gave him, seems to me that used to be called treason and was a hanging or firing squad YES?

Nov. 12, 2007, 9:49 p.m.Anyone remember the movie, 'Magic Christian?' The scene where they fill a pit with cattle ******, blood and by products and then stuff money into comes to mind. "Free money, come and get your free money." Man were the Beatles tuned into what was wrong. The scene was totally prescient.
As for the "Democrats do the same thing" crowd. Hey give me the facts and I'll support putting them in jail too. But, while I don't support Hillary, she certainly doesn't seem to have done anything that GWB hasn't done too.

Nov. 13, 2007, 1:32 a.m.the feds are busting a state government for bribery...while its good that they are doing their job here..
when is someone going to do it to the feds... after all, Abramoff went to jail for bribery, yet no one went to jail for receiving those bribes.
I know, I know, its very unpatriotic of me to point out my government's problems... oh wait, no it isnt it actually is patriotic in a country of, by, and for the people for the people to perform oversight on their govt.

Nov. 13, 2007, 10:17 a.m.he allowed terrorists to kill 3,000 Americans
You know this one statement alone shows what a misguided individual you truly must be, ,,,,, even Bill Clinton would agree with me on that one. The Satan comment puts you toe to toe with a little dictator way south of here. Call me what you will, the name calling shows your IQ if not your maturity to be lacking,,, but hey you have the left wing talking points down pat. Ah the Hypocrite card,,,,, just like everything else, your side has a label for every subject to try to silence others, that kind of thing just makes me laugh,,,,,, I bet you are one of the ones here that say we on the right are mean spirited too, talk about being a hypocrite.
