'Lions For Lambs' - Can We Say Political Agenda? »
Posted By tonks21 1 year, 7 months ago in Arts & Entertainment'Lions for Lambs' is a perfect example of how the entertainment business is using movies to push their political agenda on the audiences of the world. The screen writer (whose name escapes me) obviously has some personal views of the war on terror and is trying to push those ideas on to the people watching.

"Can We Say Political Agenda coming from the Arthur of this article?">>>
I'd say unless a person has seen the movie to form a valid opinion, & not borrow it from someone else, no. "We" can't say it's a political agenda with honesty.

FLOP AT THE BOX OFFICE...... so far looks like people have seen enough flim clips and enough commentary from Redford to NOT want to pay their hard earned money to see this movie.

dexlex, or should I say dyslex?
You and the "arthur" ought to get together. "Than" you would be very happy reading each other's drivel.
No wonder you support Bush and his stupid war. You are relatives, probably. You share the mutation contained in the bad grammar gene.
I wish I could sink this idiotic post ten times.
Oh well, I will make a point of seeing the film.

From the article: "Listen up Hollywood none of us go to the movies to watch something that drips with sarcasm and can start up a heated debate in under 60 seconds."
I do. I haven't seen this one yet but after reading this review---I can hardly wait!

"Listen up Hollywood none of us go to the movies to watch something that drips with sarcasm and can start up a heated debate in under 60 seconds. We go to the movies to forget about the horrors and frustration of the world around us."
I personally like movies that make you think. And delve into real world problems and situations. In fact i think that's been one of the largest problems with hollywood as of late. They do not make enough movies that do use current event. Heck, a large majority of the best films of all time had current events as a theme, or major world problems as a topic.

"I tire of the constant American and Christian bashing in Hollywood - those do not make anyone think."
True, true....and they're not too fond of Jews, either. It's amazing that, although they've finally done away with the stereotypes of African and Native Americans, they still persist with negative images of others (except Muslim terrorists, of course. According to Hollywood, those don't really exist).

So, since this is so biased, how is it different than movies, especially during WWII that encouraged Americans to support the war effort, join up or even to spy on their neighbors? Those movies were biased, distorted the truth and even lied, how is that different? I think the difference is that Hollywood isn't in support of this war and that just pi$$es some people off so bad they can't stand it.
By the way, the review is junk.

"except the liberal Democrats in power decided that Stalin and the Red Communists were nice enough to be left alone - and enslave Eastern Europe... no better than Hitler."
Actually, the leftists back then urged appeasement of Hitler - until he abrogated his non-aggression pact with "Uncle Joe" Stalin. How little times have changed for them.

You are clearly looking at things through Cheney colored glasses.
"The United States was fighting for the freedom of the world in World War 2"
Well now we are fighting to enslave a sovreign nation. Is that any better? Isn't that something that America doesn't do? Then why not show both sides of an argument.
And speaking of agendas, what about Nazareth, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Passion of the Christ, Left Behind, etc., etc., etc.

Bkumm,
I think you are up to something. The author says: "Now if the movie had been about the sacrifices that the men and women of the armed services have been doing over there to protect us than we wouldn't have minded so much." In other words, the problem is not the distortion, but the direction of the distortion.

"'Lions for Lambs' is a perfect example of how the entertainment business is using movies to push their political agenda on the audiences of the world. "
You could tell this from the advertisements on the TV but so what? They've been doing this forever. Granted, they weren't so blatently leftist in the old days, but the liberal attitudes were still there. Twelve Angry Men is a good example. One of the biggest differences between then and today is the quality of what's coming out of Hollywood.
Bottom line, if you don't like what's coming out of Hollywood, don't spend your time and money at the movies. But don't expect the propoganda wing of the Democratic Party, whether it's Hollywood or the major media outlets, to ever, ever provide us with the truth. That's just not going to happen until we have a leader who'll force the issue.

Dang Cherev you must be an oracle! cause apparently world wide, people have ignored this movie! I guess they are voting with their pocketbooks. 6.7 Mill on the 1st week with all that advertising and hype. With 3 top rated Hollywood stars they managed to beat "Dan in Real Life" by 900K dollars!

Cherev, I don't know if Al Franken is in your far left, but everything he put in his book, Liars, was at least validated with a source which is a lot more than Hannity, O'Reilly or Ann Coulter has ever done! Franken did the book with the assistance of the Harvard aspiring journalists.
The Bushies have to offer lucrative contracts for their books and invalid studies to support their Un-Anerican and bigotted positions! Last week it was ten corrupt studies referenced by the Bush FCC Chief to further consolidate big media... to our greater demise!

Hey SAAB7699
"ok! Who's Arthur?"
Good question, man. The author does have a political agenda. I've seen the movie and while it's not going to keep anybody in the edge of their seat tinglig with excitement, it does pose some very important questions about the dishonesty of US involvement in a couple of wars. It's about time Hollywood got involved.

The hollywood idiots should keep their political views out of movies these people play make believe for a living and if it wasn't for our military and the willingness to use it they wouldn't have the freedoms they take for granted. They're just actors not political scholars nor are they speaking for the masses just themselves and thier agenda.Think about this if the republicans are for the rich then why are almost all actors entertainers democrats. It's because its the democrats misinformation that keeps being funneled to the public as fact instead of rhetoric!!!!!!

I agree with most of what you say kiceman1. Although I do think a very SELECT few actors are well informed. I am glad that so far the films (moreover FILM MAKERS) that blast our military and America FLOP. We can all disagree about the war and politics, but we should be thankful we live in America. I know where my freedom comes from.

Who is the first president to have an executive order to have a political committee over every major government agency? Dumya! He has politicized everything for the greater demise of America and Americans, except the rich rich Americans! At least the Press and Hollywood are trying to show some counterpoint/truths which failed for most of Bush's tenure!

Problem with the reporter's POV is this: EVERYTHING within our media has political satire in one form or fashion. Obliviously she hasn't read or heard of Walt Kelly's Pogo which literally slammed the U.S. Government with political satire.
Then you have Michael Moore and his documentaries from his recent 'Sicko,' to his original 'Roger and Me'. And who could forget his little speech at the Oscars?
Not to mention George Carlin's views on how we run things in this country. The truth is, though we are patriotic for the most part, we Americans aren't stupid either. We realize we don't live in a perfect country, and we've been criticized long before Hollywood was ever established. The thing is people tend to forget is, 'it's only a movie, get over it.'
Or to put it as Mr. Kelly did, 'Don't take life too serious, it ain't nohow permanent.'
Some decent words to live by.

I work in the entertainment industry, and I think the author should know that the use of entertainment media as a platform for a political agenda is not new. Shakespeare did it, Moliere did it, and never were there more films with a political slant then in the 1940s. Heck, Casablanca's whole theme was about the sacrifices we must make for the greater cause... and it was a hit on the homefront in 1942. Furthermore, Hollywood was anti-war five years ago, but they didn't churn out anti-war movies then, because the country didn't want to see them. The citizenry was all pro-war and pro-Bush. We're not anymore, and Hollywood is creating films for a nation desperate for an explanation of how we got here, and advice on how we might get out. Propaganda films tell you what to think, films like this one tell you that you SHOULD be thinking. An educated, thinking populace is what our current administration fears more then the terrorists.

I'm surprised you posted the first link, injest. Most of the blurbs are positive. The biggest problem seems to be that the film goes over most Americans' heads. That comes as no surprise to me. We are a stupid and gullible collective to fall for the lies of GWB.

I think it's laughable that the author of this article (possibly Arthur) went to this movie thinking he was going to get anything even remotely unbiased.
It's a fictional movie written to lure audiences in with themes based on current events.
It's NOT a documentary (which aren't inherently unbiased themselves) or other format that presupposes an unbiased presentation of the story, whether it's fact or fiction.
Furthermore, I could have guessed this thread would have gone the way of "the liberal hollywood media" just by reading the title on the main page...with all the usual suspects and their conspiracy theories about the liberal holocaust against the poor, lil' ole christians.
The original article and subsequent thread make baby jesus cry because it's idiotic to the core.

Numbers say it all,,,,, the anti war movies aren't making money,,,,,, everyone goes to movies,,,, not just those that have a R next to their names. If this movie was a good movie, people would go see it. This movie got 4th place and that is supposed to Hollywood's Stalwart movie with all the top players. I can't remember the name of all these movies but I heard one has made about ¼ of what they spent to make it. For these movies to be making such small amounts of money, it stands to reason that only the diehard supporters of these types of movies are going and everyone else is deciding to spend their money elsewhere,,,, you do the math and come up with your own reasons why this is happening.

Right. Cause the most popular films are the best ones. Where do you get your kool aid? I'd like to have some. I grow tired of living in a world that isn't black and white and isn't linear the way yours is.
Look at the list: http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross
Did you know that "True Lies" was a better movie then "Godfather"? I bet you didn't.
I bet you also didn't know that Frederico Fellini who is one of the most revered and influential filmmakers never made anything that was nearly as good as "Dumb and Dumber" or "George of the Jungle".

Slate your right, the numbers do tell, but they don't tell how bad 4th place might not seam too bad till you look at the box office draw for the other 3
Bee Movie, $72.2 mil in 10 days
American Gangster 10-day cume is $80.7 mil
Fred Claus, earned just $19.2 mil
Lions for Lambs earned a mere $6.7 mil
And
Dan in Real Life rounded out the top five with a $5.8 mil
Blahhhahah

Any good art has a message. And REALLY good art evokes emotions, be that love or hate.
What's the point otherwise. Do you really want movies to just be about entertainment and making people smile? Wanna vote Shakespeare in Love for Best Picture again? I think it's great that there is more going on in Hollywood than the traditional formula.
Guy meets girl, guy loses girl, guy gets girl back. Everyone smiles.
If I were to make a movie, HELL YES I'd want to say something with it. If you don't have anything to say, spare us the recycled garbage of another formulaic movie. I can't think of any really good movie that DIDN'T have some sort of political or ideological agenda.
It's not a conspiracy, it's an opinion.

Movies with messages are great,,,,
Good art that evokes emotions, be they good, bad, or ugly usually stir the masses if they do it well and the masses come forth and open their wallets because the buzz about said movie makes everyone want to go see it,,,,,, yeah Good art does that,,,,,, do you hear the buzz or see the money flow because of this one?
Just something to consider,,,,

I love movies and books that make me question things. If nobody had written books questioning the authority of King George and the right of all men to be free we would most likely have pictures of the queen on our money today. Hey those rabble rousing traitors did a heck of a job. Good thing they had minds that were open to questioning the political satus quo of their times.
