May 14, 2008, 4:42 a.m.The role of the E8 group in his picture is therefore completely unphysical. Because different components of the E8 multiplet are assumed to be particles with completely different properties, the E8 symmetry is broken at stage zero. There is no E8 symmetry - and there can't be any E8 symmetry - that would actually relate these different particles.
