I think Senator Lott has bigger fish to fry. He wants to get into the lobbying game before the rules change.

The Republican Party in Mississippi is thoroughly inbred. Gov. Haley Barbour will make certain that Lott has a place to use his talents.

OK - he's 66. Not really EARLY retirement by most standards. Maybe he's just tired of the B.S. and finds that he CAN retire - so why not? He's doubtless got a very good pension thanks to us taxpayers (many of us NOT having pensions at all) so why not? Hell, if I COULD retire, I would.

"Joy to the World....Another Rat jumping ship!"

....Yes, and only 24 more to go, before the people exiting the Bush administration equals the number of rats that jumped ship (or were murdered, or mysteriously "disappeared") from the Clinton administration 14 years ago.

THAT pandering, jerry-built, collapsing ruin of an administration had more secrets, dirty deals, scandals, foul play, misappropriations and shame-faced lies than any administration before or since. Just ask Vince Foster.

        Oh, that's right. He's dead.

26 years, 20 years too long for Republican or Democrat. All states need term limits.

Ba-bye! Glad to see ya go, ya redneck with a $400 haircut and a cheap suit.

If he does become a lobbyist, I'll give odds that it won't be for the insurance companies.

I'd also guess that Barbour will appoint a Republican replacement, then stall, stall, stall on the special election.

My thought on the timing of his announcement is that it allows Mississippi governor Barbour to name a temporary replacement to Lott's seat, which allows said replacement to have a chance to hold the seat in the next election. Something to be said for incumbency, even if it is only one year. The changing rules on becoming a lobbyist plays into his decision as well.

The rats are jumping ship now that they've pillaged the treasury, manufactured a war, and ushered in a recession.

Time to enjoy the spoils of war while the rest of the country suffers.

Too bad. He and the governor did a wonderful job dealing with their state's problems with Katrina, unlike the bastion of liberalism, Louisiana and New Orleans.

It's all about money. Can't make enough being a Senator, become a lobbyist! That is before the new law goes into effect in January 2008 restricting senators to a two year wait period before they're eligible. Money, money, money! You thought he was there to represent you.

Either Congress cleans itself out or they can go the hard way. We The People are heading for better, stronger and lasting freedom. He knows whats coming and he can see it in the masses of the public as they fight to survive with the inflation that our Congress has promoted for the last 50 years or so. Better to leave with Grace than Dishonor. May he soon find that being a lobbiest for the few rich is a dead-end job as well.
