What the he11 are you talking about? JFK took us to the brink of war. It was one of the most irresponsible things ever done in the history of the USA. The USSR thankfully backed down and THAT avoided war. Apparently you don't know about the Cuban Missile Crisis either.

Just heard there is going to be a new show, DO YOU KNOW MORE THAN A KINDERGARTENER and the guests are going to be Bush's brain trust (is that an oxymoron?). By the way, when asked what an oxymoron was Bush said "its someone too stupid to breathe".

Exactly. While I was barely alive during the Cuban Missile Crisis, we learned about it in high school.
I heard the show on Saturday and was amazed she didn't know what it was--she said she thought the Cuban Missile Crisis was something like the Bay of Pigs. I was expecting to read more about this admission, but this is the first article I've seen anywhere mentioning it.

I also lived through this and organised a vigil and fast in the town where I was a student in England.
The local paper carried a great headline but alas that escapes me now.

I did NOT know that JFK shipped those RUSSIAN missiles secretly into Cuba. I did not know that JFK sent in all those RUSSIAN advisors (missile handlers) into Cuba. I did not know that JFK and Fidel Castro were such bosom buddies.
GASP! JFK was a super secret RUSSIAN mole that infiltrated into the highest reaches of American government. If he wasn't assassinated by Oswald, he might even have programmed our very own missiles to fire on American cities.

People, its not worth trying to explain to those who still hate the Kennedy's, and are intent on revisionist history. Their ignorance doesn't come from poor education in school. You went to school and you know the curriculum.
THEIR IGNORANCE IS WILLINGLY EMBRACED and spewed forth from the maw of hatred like so much bile. The truth is not to be sought by them, only the use of words to spin and distort. Not to grade you on your history, but you must have been playing hooky with your squeeze during history class. Not to fret, did it myself a couple of times. Nothing like a day skinny-dipping with your beloved during history class.
Don't know where the hell you were, but I was sitting on the tailgate of a C-130 loaded for bear during the Cuban Crises. Our Battle Group had been selected to jump into Fidel's out-house and blow the s*h*i*t out of it. We didn't have to because our president -- John Fitzgerald Kennedy -- averted WW-III. Bush, on the other-hand wanted to drop the big-one on Cuba.
Get your facts straight before blowing your mouth-off.

I'm uncertain how well JFK handled the crisis, but it is difficult to argue with success. Maybe when more documents are declassified, we will know more. It is my understanding that JFK made a secret deal with the Russians to pull our missiles out of Turkey and agreed not to invade Cuba in exchange for the Russians seeming to back down. Is my understanding correct?

Not to fret, my cool friend, JFK did make a deal with Russia. He promised not to attack Cuba -- if, and only if Nakita Khrushchev agreed to withdraw all nuclear missles from Cuba.
But you are correct, Khrushchev didn't want to cross the ship embargo. The Navy were ordered to sink any ship attempting to land in Cuba. I know this to be true, I was there...
PS: ******ed George H. P. Bush something terrible! Remember, it was not only George Bush who trained Fidel Castro, but more importantly, it was the same rodent who drew-up the plans for the Bay Of Pigs fiasco. He wanted air support for his little Cuban army. Jack kept his word with Krushchev. That and the fact Jack was also going to pull all US personnel out of Southeast Asia were the reasons for the assassination. When Jack was assassinated, there were only 55,000 military advisors in all of South Vietnam. How do I know all this? That's where I got the handle "Swamp Fox."
