I don't know if I actually agree with this piece of legislature, but I suspect it is a movement towards perceived civility. The problem is that I feel there are certain people who deserve to die, as recompense for the deeds they themselves perpetrated.
I guess this could be considered something noteworthy from New Jersey.

The problem is the appeals process whether you are pro or con death penalty. Financially we cannot afford it. It takes more than 15 years to execute a death penalty conviction. Because of the appeals process it costs at least five times the amount of housing a regular life without parole conviction. I believe personally that it is a disservice to society, the convicted to keep a person in a prison forever.

I rest most of my belief on morals, but you are correct--the financial and social responsibility is draining.
Where do you draw the line?

You've got to be freaking kidding me. If they want to save lives, they would kill more criminals. Take armed robbers for example. By putting a gun in the face of a hard working store clerk who is just trying to make a living, they are showing the intent to kill. They are showing that they are capable of killing an innocent civilian for their personal gain. To me that should require the death penalty. Also, we should get rid of this 15-20 years worth of appeals.
How many violent criminals would have to die before criminals fear the law? My guess would be less than 100.

The problem as I stated above is where do you draw the line--pedophiles, child molesters, serial killers, manslaughter? It is a tough call to determine who gets the chair and who does not. I admit tho, abolishing capital punishment will definitely embolden some with the knowledge they will not be executed for whatever crime they may commit.
Luckily for us, many of these wackos take care of themselves and remove themselves from the gene pool.

Well they're saying it more feasible to give them life in prison then to execute them right off the bat. They say Capitol punishment is counter productive because it's so expensive and they are saying it doesn't serve as an effective deterrent, and I have to relent on my viewpoint on capitol punishment, and think of no better way for a guilty person to spend the rest of his life behind bars to reflect on his actions, and pay the price for the same...day by day. Besides, Gov.Corzine is stringing along with legislators on this call.
