    FTA:

Jamie Leigh Jones, now 22, says that after she was raped by multiple men at a KBR camp in the Green Zone, the company put her under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job.

Vile--the act, the cover-up, which blends misogyny, an outrageous and particularly primitive example of male-"entitlement" protection, and political ass-covering.

Does anyone require further evidence that in the minds of the current administration, our country's interests and those of Halliburton are one?

I wish I could say that I find this unbelievable, but I don't. However, leave it to the good folks at ABC News to dig this up and try to find justice for this poor woman.

What is happening to us as a nation?

This is the problem. In a society that puts itself above such disgraceful actions then a cover up is often the result. However, i would hope that the offenders are brought to justice much in the same way as those who disgraced our country by torturing prisoners.

I hope this woman sues Halliburton for billions of dollars for the egregious bodily harm they committed on her. Since punitive damages are subjective, I hope the jury or judge depending upon if its a jury or judge trial will once and for all put Halliburton out of business forever.

Legal experts say Jones' alleged assailants will likely never face a judge and jury, due to an enormous loophole that has effectively left contractors in Iraq beyond the reach of United States law.

"It's very troubling," said Dean John Hutson of the Franklin Pierce Law Center. "The way the law presently stands, I would say that they don't have, at least in the criminal system, the opportunity for justice."

This is such BS. No business contract overrules the rule of the land. Never has, never actually will. If the Chinese govt had a contract to with some company to rape sheep, would we say `oh, well they have a contract, there`s nothing we can do`. Or would we say that contract is null and void because it violates the laws of the land? F`in hell this is simple.

If KBR can do this to an American, imagine what they can and are doing to the iraqis with no accountability.

"KBR has moved for Jones' claim to be heard in private arbitration, instead of a public courtroom. It says her employment contract requires it.

In arbitration, there is no public record nor transcript of the proceedings, meaning that Jones' claims would not be heard before a judge and jury. Rather, a private arbitrator hired by the corporation would decide Jones' case."

This reprehensible conduct by Haliburton is astonishing on one hand and then when I think that Dick Cheney was their former CEO I must admit that I am not that surprised.

Put the bums behind bars; start with Cheney and his puppet, Bush.

Good luck to KBR in trying to get this case removed from the jurisdiction of the federal court, since I doubt this has anything to do with a breach of contract, because I doubt KBR included a provision of being raped in her contract. Furthermore, the legal system takes a dim look upon exculpatory clauses when they deal with egregious bodily harm of this magnitude if such clauses were inserted in the contract.

This is precisely how mercenaries have behaved for thousands of years.

This case is totally different than the prior criminal matter concerning the shootings by blackwater, because this is a civil matter. All the complaining party has to do in a civil case is file the lawsuit in a court having legal jursidiction over either the subject matter or the person. In this case, if the defendant maintains an office in the federal district where the lawsuit is being filed, then the federal court in that district would have legal jurisdiction over the legal matter and over the defendant.

It's reprehensible that a company such as Halliburton can evade prosecution on all levels for all misdeeds and meanwhile move their Headquarters overseas. Yet our government and our citizens continue to pay them outlandish and extravagant no bid contracts which equate to theft.

Question: what was KBR planning to do with her if she hadn`t convinced one of the guards to let her call her Dad?

Seriously. The company kidnapped her and after getting caught it still disposed of the rape kit. So to what lengths was it willing to go to cover this up?

She may be lucky to be alive.

Everyone who wears or ever wore a military uniform should be outraged about private security contractors (mercenaries by another name). The men and women in uniform owes allegiance to the United States of America and are accountable to the Military Code of Conduct, whereas mercs owe their allegiance to the paymaster and are accountable to no one. And the mercs get better pay than our troops. Whatever money these private contractors receive come out of the US Defense budget and that means our troops are being short changed too.

That is so wrong, a contract for employment does not cover rape I don't think! There needs to be a public court trial against everyone who was involved in the gang-rape. The trial needs to be held right here in the USA.

Since when, was Haliburton put in charge of law enforcement?

Halliburton/KBR win 80% of the cases brought up in their arbitration process. I'm surprised it's not 100%. A company I worked for (quasi-governmental) until recently has been around since 1918. I found out that they had never lost an arbitration case. Corporations do think they're above the law and our government is complicit in allowing them to think this way.
