The measure was approved by a vote of 372-to-9, with all of the "no" votes cast by Democrats. A similar resolution recognizing the importance of Ramadan and the Islamic faith was passed unanimo

Jesus embraced even the lepper, but never the hypocrite.
Religion is for those who fear hell, Spiritualism is for those who have been there...
Considering that most politicans are hypocrites who lack genuine spirituality, it would be wise to keep religion and politics separate.
This article belongs in politics not religion, in my opinion.

Only weeks after voting for a resolution that "recognizes the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world," nine Democrats in the U.S. House refused to vote for a Christmas resolution that condemns the worldwide persecution of Christians.
U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., was on the list of those who endorsed the statement recognizing Islam but refused to support the Christmas resolution that noted the holiday "is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and around the world."
Why are they pandering to the Muslims, what gives? I think I will drop Diana DeGette an e-mail and see if she will answer why she and others are pandering to this group.

I did write Rep. Diana DeGette. Here is her reply. Frankly a nice way to be a coward on a hot button topic and completely dump her responsibility off by saying basically she only listens to people in her district that might vote. What she isn't getting is the decisions she makes in the House impacts ALL AMERICANS........FRANKLY SHE IS A WHIMP and a pinhead. here is her e-mail reply.
Dear Friend,
Thank you for contacting my office. Unfortunately, due to the large
volume of mail I receive, I am only able to respond to constituents of the
First Congressional District of Colorado. Your comments have been noted
and are appreciated.
Sincerely,
Diana DeGette
Member of Congress

If we really are being threatened by a world-wide "Islamo-fascism" sonspiracy, then we should increase dialog with and understanding of moderate muslims, particularly the millions who now live in the US. It's not like Ramadan is "Suicide-bomber appreciation month", it's a real, genuine, and spiritually viable holiday tradition that does deserve respect. I don't think Congress should be involving itself with any religious issues because it's unconstitutional, but that seems to be politically inconvenient right now. Only 9 democrats voted against the Christmas resolution out of 435 so get a grip and get some perspective: Christmas and Christianity (which are only nominally related in the first place) are NOT under attack. Now get your a** to the mall and buy more stuff- I'll be checking the thrift stores in a couple months to get what your family and friends are too polite to tell you they don't really want, need, or have room for.

Just so I understand:
It is politically correct to support a resolution recognizing Islam and Ramadan; but politically incorrect to support a similar resolution recognizing Christianity?
Remember that in Islamic ideology, men and women do not have equal rights, nor do non-Muslims share the same rights as Muslims. Sharia law is completely contrary to the U.S. Constitution, and freedom of expression is non-existent.
.
Do these people really represent us?

Well our Congress regularly passes resolutions supporting zionists - in spite of their record of ethnic cleansing, torture, crimes against humanity, etc.
Torture and torment in 2007 AD
Do No Evil â;; The "only democracy in the Middle East" has imprisoned at least 600,000 Palestinians since the ethnic cleansing of those native people started in 1948 en masse. Remember that the population was hardly a million to start with. Many are arrested at dead of night in a manner similar to the Zionist terrorist squads in the 1930s..

The dems were not the ones who made iraq into a terrorist playground. That was W for you. Bin Ladin could not have hoped for anything better than what W did. The permanent bases we are building in Iraq will help fill the ranks of Al Quaida for decades.

Bunch of bunk! Why is Congress diddly-pooing around with these idiotic resolutions honoring holidays which are already on the Calendar, when we have children without health care coverage, a war in Iraq, outrageous hunger and poverty in this nation, and a doofus for a president. Honestly, a zooful of chimps would do a far better job than the dimble-bunnies in Congress and the White House!

David: you, spadecaller and hmac have it right. our politician shouldn't be honoring ANY religion. What they should be doing is running our government, not making feel good resolutions. they should be getting rid of our national debt, controlling our borders, protecting our citizenry and their rights among many other things instead of this garbage.

Christianity, if you have it, it will be in your heart and soul. Resolutions won't change the Word of Christ. We do have to be careful, because other religions are ways of life, not choices. Eye for an eye, the guy that strangled his daughter for changing from the traditional covers to her face at school, that sort of thing; truly democracy is not Christianity. We often see politics that are not grounded, expediency leads to silly decisions; and as we also have now, negative consequences. Christians should enjoy Christmas, showing peace and joy to others, and as a bonus, we too will be happy. This is the People's government and we should place the right thing up there with celebrating the day. Recall W using toucher as the basis for the removal of Saddam, now what is America doing, that's us Christians too. If you don't like their vote do the Christian thing, that is the right thing. Keep the standards up for the day and the other 364.

Ramadan is a truly great tradition that you have to be around people celebrating it to understand. Christmas has become about materialism, toys, stress, and increased suicides. Ramadan is about fasting, doing without, focusing on what you really need to survive, identifying with those who have less than you. I have known non-Muslims even who have tried to follow it (it's not easy!)

Y'all can't stand to have ANY dissent can you- 9 democrats, that's 2% of the house. This proves that the right is essentially anti-democratic and teetering on the edge of fascism. This is a stupid bill anyway, Christmas isn't really a Christian holiday and some Christian sects do not celebrate it because it's really Pagan

Personally, a better Christmas Resolution would be not to emphasize its 'Christian' background, but more on what the Holiday really means on a Universal level.
In other words, prohibit the whole shopping and gift-giving crap, or at least prohibit expensive gift buying. Recently, all Christmas has devolved into is a 'get the most expensive gift, regardless the cost' where we no longer honour the day for being with families, but instead wonder what expensive toy can be bought to appease the children and family.
Apparently we forget the moral about the Grinch Who Stole Christmas, where the Holiday comes whether or not one receives or gives gifts.
The reason I'm a bit Grinchy myself recently is, many have noticed the Wii Shortage going on. Especially where many customers have now gone to extreme lenghts, by hook-or-crook, to get stores to sell them one.
Thanks to a stupid tracking site (cont.)

several customers have gotten the impression local gamestores have gotten them in. As a result, I witnessed two co-workers transform from team players into bitter enemies over this.
Mainly because apparently people fail comprehending what 'sold out' means, as if not obtaining a popular gift--whether it's a console or plush toy--will pulverize Christmas. And they claim children are the immature lot of our race.
In all honesty, I'd like it for once if Christmas was put on hiatus for one year. Meaning no commericalism, no specials, no popular toys, no expensive gift giving, no shopping period. But instead make families celebrate the holiday as they see fit rather than endure a torturous chore of finding gifts ending up either in the gift exchange, closet, or garbage.
Mainly because here's the thing: with the money spent needlessly on expensive gifts, one could instead use it for helping someone less fortunate. (cont)
