Yes, Spadecaller, the entire news industry and the top leaders of the Congress are in a well-knit scheme to not have V.P. Cheney be impeached. They are obviously all n it together. Maybe, just maybe, the news orginazations didn't want to run the op-ed article because it isn't news worthy. Oh, now there is a stretch.

Which are the more important aspects of this story: the attempt to impeach Cheney or the fact that these major newspapers would not carry the Congressmen's news release?

If we are to learn anything from the impeachment push, the PATRIOT Act, the MCA, the Iraq war vote, etc, it is that Republican v Democrat is a Punch and Judy show, and despite pandering to different constituencies, the Republicans and Democrats both dance to the same tune.
How much support do you see impeachment getting from the Democrat party? Why are the Dems supporting BushCo's agenda?
The answer is important if we are to wake up and start deprogramming our minds.

My local evening news already shows canned political news slanted to the right from Washington (or so they say). Yep, I'm in one of those foregone states the Dems conceded the last two presidential elections.
But yes, the consolidation of the media can make it worse... like the anti-monopoly laws being thrown out on energy by the former repug Congress... and all the loan problems not just to soldiers, but now to home lenders. How could Dumya increase big government more and still let business decide what is best not for Americans, but business itself?
How about the 32 million paid to that Florida Company for police barracks in Iraq that never were built!

To me the story is about the stranglehold and single-mindedness that the Media now display. Time and time again over the past 12 years we have seen the media fail in its mission as the Fourth Estate. The founders ensured freedom for the media not so we could hear endless banter about presidential or celebrity sexcapades, but so the American people could be informed concerning matters important to our country.
Even the latest NIE that came out about the Administration knowing Iran stopped it pursuit of nukes in 2003, but still chose to attempt to lead us into another elective war has drawn very little traction.
That alone is an impeachable offense.

Walden, I think these newspapers want to insure they have access to the administation... and they don't want to be trashed by the highly funded, ring wing propaganda machine... whose lack of any scrupples makes them far more effective than they should be.

the reluctance to impeach any of these....."turds", is because that would show the us gov't as faulty. and none of them want the states shown in this light, on the world stage.
it's a better deal to let the world believe that the states have simply "lost it's way", rather than "railroaded off the bridge, into the canyon".
none of the people that will be left standing after dec.08, want the negative influence to overshadow "their" governance.
the problem is, what have the turds, in store for the world, in the next year?
and now, at this point, is it prudent to go through an impeachment. how long would proceedings take, to have these people removed? how much would it cost?
one thing is for sure. it's going to be an interesting year.

I've heard that arguement almost a year ago. What have the costs been to our troops in Iraq and to the erosions of our constitutional rights during this past year, let alone this past month?
On the precipice of WWIII, leaving Cheney at the helm is not wise; lets not talk prudence while practicing evasion.
As citizens it is our duty to defend the constitution from foreign and domestic enemies. That means now!

I think the world would welcome and respect ANY efforts to bring the abomination causing desolation both here and abroad to an end. IMPEACH! What has it already cost us not to impeach? How much MORE will it cost if we DON'T?

SC: I think it foolish to spend taxpayers $$ to have a hearing that won't remove the VP before elections, even if the cause is just, of which I don't agree. We will be embroiled in a continued, but escalated hate campaign, that our nation does not need.

We have to show these thugs that would be dictators don't belong in America. Clinton's situation had nothing to do with We The People having their rights, freedoms and perseverance being in jeopardy. These people have capitalized by making our nation poor. When I have to pay 750.00 for a two bedroom house that is only worth 350.00 a month or less than that plus fix it too. You can bet this nation has a problem. Right now I don't care what it may cost. I don't think they need a court appointed lawyer. They have made plenty of money. In fact if we were to attach everything they own we would probably see the national deficit cut in half.

I remember thinking when Nixon was under fire for obstruction of justice, they'll we'll bring this crook down. But we did.
These are more difficult times, but to conclude that it can't be done is a self-fulfilling prophecy. We can do it, if we unite and exert our influence. What do you have to lose? Let's do more than pontificate.

We can and should do it, to send the message that attacks on other countries, and on our Bill of Rights, will not be tolerated.
But we should also realize that if we think the problem begins and ends with BushCo, we are living in a fool's paradise; we have a long fight ahead of us which goes far beyond electoral politics.

I used to think Democrats shouldn't play the same way as Republicans have. But they haven't been effective doing that--unfortunately, the general public responds well to political moves.
You're right though, that removal from office wouldn't happen within 13 months, if it could at all.
At the same time, there are good reasons for starting impeachment proceedings that have nothing to do with removing Bush and Cheney from office. Investigations would intensify. Constitutional matters might be questioned and resolved. And while transparency of the workings of government has never been so low, intensified investigations in a more public spotlight could reveal details.

This is not about vengeance for me. This is about justice, pure and simple! I am neither Dem or Repug (thank God!), but between the two, I definitely lean towards the Dems, not that they don't leave much to be desired. NO, for me, this is about bringing despicable criminals to justice. They are murderers, imho: murderers of our constitution, murderers of our true and common values, murderers of our citizens sworn and dedicated to defend us, murderers and torturers of innocents, and mockers of religion. They are bloodthirsty and sadistic, imho, and they MUST be stopped cold.

Our free press is again complicit in ignoring the valued and necessary opinion of the people. The American people sent a message via the last election which opined we needed a leadership change. By now the putrid stench of betrayal must be filling the nostrils of everyone who voted for courage and their lungs suffocating with disbelief that nothing is being done. We have, for the most part, lost our press to the very big money that is running the nation. We must, again, vote out every democrastinator and republican who wont listen. We won't have and do not deserve a free press if we continue to allow another cycle of 'business as usual'. WE have to recapture our government in order to take back a truly free press.

My belief that everyone in America has a protected right to say most anything desired is one I hold very dear. When three members of the Judiciary Committe take their case to op-ed pages of the nation's largest Republican owned newspapers and are denied the forum ... what are we sho joind the U.S. military to think? Defend the Constitution of the U.S. What did you become a Marine to defend? Ending each well-phrased comment with your "SEMPER FIDELIS" is respected but cliche. Some think a third party will solve our problems. I don't.
What would give the third party immunity from the same corruption inherent in the current system?
The real underlying issue is how to make it possible for any CANDIDATE to get a fair opportunity to win elections in a system that has been corrupted by money from lobbyists and special interest groups.
If lobbying is not outlawed altogether and effective campaign reform is not insitituted, I believe we all, whether Democrat, Republican, or Independent -- we all are pretending that we have something more to do with this government than we actually do.
How does one change a corporate dictatorship? Isn't that the most important question facing us today in America?

The people are no longer represented by Congress or the Executive branch, and the Judicial branch has been compromised. That is an obvious statement of fact.

If we do not impeach the yahoos that currently hold sway in the oval office than we will be considered stupid, gutless, powerless on complicit in the actions and lies of this administration. Which one do you want to be.
The reputation and sound values of this nation have been dragged through the latrine by these Bushbots. And it is long past time to ride them out of town on a rail.
My favorite fantasy: Georgie in an orange jump suit sporting handcuffs and ankle shackled he hobbles down a hallway underneath a banner that reads "Mission Accomplished."
