They were turned down by every one -- including the New York Times, Washington Post and Miami Herald -- so now one of the lawmakers has taken his campaign to the Internet. Story and video.

Which are the more important aspects of this story: the attempt to impeach Cheney or the fact that these major newspapers would not carry the Congressmen's news release?

Dec. 15, 2007, 9:13 a.m.To me the story is about the stranglehold and single-mindedness that the Media now display. Time and time again over the past 12 years we have seen the media fail in its mission as the Fourth Estate. The founders ensured freedom for the media not so we could hear endless banter about presidential or celebrity sexcapades, but so the American people could be informed concerning matters important to our country.
Even the latest NIE that came out about the Administration knowing Iran stopped it pursuit of nukes in 2003, but still chose to attempt to lead us into another elective war has drawn very little traction.
That alone is an impeachable offense.

Dec. 15, 2007, 9:52 a.m.the reluctance to impeach any of these....."turds", is because that would show the us gov't as faulty. and none of them want the states shown in this light, on the world stage.
it's a better deal to let the world believe that the states have simply "lost it's way", rather than "railroaded off the bridge, into the canyon".
none of the people that will be left standing after dec.08, want the negative influence to overshadow "their" governance.
the problem is, what have the turds, in store for the world, in the next year?
and now, at this point, is it prudent to go through an impeachment. how long would proceedings take, to have these people removed? how much would it cost?
one thing is for sure. it's going to be an interesting year.

Please take 2 seconds and sign Wexler's petition; then we know we are doing everyting to support those that ARE trying to represent us. Then send a friend or two this link and our influence will grow. Invite others to this story and invite them to petition our government. It IS up to us.
Let me announe it here; I signed the petition, because I support the impeachment of VP Cheney. What about you?
Rep. Wexler needs to collect 50,000 signatures to convince his Democratic colleagues that the American people truly support impeachment hearings.

Dec. 15, 2007, 10:16 a.m.We have to show these thugs that would be dictators don't belong in America. Clinton's situation had nothing to do with We The People having their rights, freedoms and perseverance being in jeopardy. These people have capitalized by making our nation poor. When I have to pay 750.00 for a two bedroom house that is only worth 350.00 a month or less than that plus fix it too. You can bet this nation has a problem. Right now I don't care what it may cost. I don't think they need a court appointed lawyer. They have made plenty of money. In fact if we were to attach everything they own we would probably see the national deficit cut in half.

These are more difficult times, but to conclude that it can't be done is a self-fulfilling prophecy. We can do it, if we unite and exert our influence. What do you have to lose? Let's do more than pontificate.

Dec. 15, 2007, 12:02 p.m.Our free press is again complicit in ignoring the valued and necessary opinion of the people. The American people sent a message via the last election which opined we needed a leadership change. By now the putrid stench of betrayal must be filling the nostrils of everyone who voted for courage and their lungs suffocating with disbelief that nothing is being done. We have, for the most part, lost our press to the very big money that is running the nation. We must, again, vote out every democrastinator and republican who wont listen. We won't have and do not deserve a free press if we continue to allow another cycle of 'business as usual'. WE have to recapture our government in order to take back a truly free press.

usmc86, anybody can use any term they choose on this board, as long as it doesn't violate the terms of use.
But if those reading your comments don't understand why you employ a term, and you decline to clarify, then your post has failed the basic purpose of language, which is communication.
I get the sense from your earlier post that you were deriding defeatist attitudes - was that the point?

Defend the Constitution of the U.S. What did you become a Marine to defend? Ending each well-phrased comment with your "SEMPER FIDELIS" is respected but cliche. Akin to pasting the worn-out yellow ribbon symbolizing some version of supporting the troops on your SUV. Issues of freedom of speech and expression are never dead in the water, Marine.

What would give the third party immunity from the same corruption inherent in the current system?
The real underlying issue is how to make it possible for any CANDIDATE to get a fair opportunity to win elections in a system that has been corrupted by money from lobbyists and special interest groups.
If lobbying is not outlawed altogether and effective campaign reform is not insitituted, I believe we all, whether Democrat, Republican, or Independent -- we all are pretending that we have something more to do with this government than we actually do.
How does one change a corporate dictatorship? Isn't that the most important question facing us today in America?

The people are no longer represented by Congress or the Executive branch, and the Judicial branch has been compromised. That is an obvious statement of fact.
This should not be a partisan issue. To defend our constitution and to restore it to functioning again is the responsibility of all Americans on both sides of the aisle.
