Dec. 31, 2007, 1:09 p.m.Yes, some place in the United States must come first when choosing the next president. We could have as easily picked New Jersey or Pennsylvania, or for that matter run alphabetically and begin with Alabama and Alaska. Imagine if suddenly Alaska were thrust into the limelight! Iowa is as good a state as any, I suppose. Though ideally, if we want to see how regions of the country are trending, why not divide the nation into 6 regions. Select one state from each region and let them have their primaries all in the same month. Not a national primary, and it allows the candidates enough time to zig zag across the country.
