Editorial presents selected videos in support of legislation and against. Included in the article is a sample email calling on lawmakers to oppose the legislation on the grounds that it crosses the line respecting separation of church and state.

I will repeat what I stated in the other thread:
One of the great features of the great American experiment is that we are free to believe - or not believe - whatever we want.
This resolution ignores the pluralism that is truly American. Period.

BTW: I submitted the Email note posted on the site and sent it to my representative. I certainly have no right asking anyone else to do what I, myself, have not done.
For those of us who want to take action and exercise our rights, you can simply paste the email and send it to your representative. The link to contact your rep is also provided on the webpage. Of course, you can also rewrite and submit your own message.
And of course, anyone is free to oppose my position and post those comments here, as well. :~)

Well what kind of politician or person is the "right kind of Christian" to get elected? Do we now have Christians that are more perfect than other Christians because of type of Church affiliation, ie are Southern Baptists more Christian than Methodists or Catholics etc, or is there a predetermined genetic disposition to become the "right kind of Christian" which naturally enables one, in a Darwinistic sense, to become a politician or a president?

Thank you icono. It is that kind of action that speaks loudest, in my opinion.
I believe in respectful debate and discourse; that's obvious, but it is the responsible actions of an informed electorate that can restore and preserve our constitutional republic and our representative democracy to redress the government. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.
Without our participation in this process our freedoms will continue to erode, because the zealots and extremist idealogues will take the actions that the silent majority ignores. We have already paid a serious price for that!
It is each of our responsiblities to talk the talk, walk the walk, and to find other travelers to share the toil of tending to our freedoms. We cannot fail if we stand together. IF...

Today is the best day to demand the restoration of the constitution for which this government must rely upon to survive or for which this government must fall by the wayside, should it fail to exist for the people and by the people.
"That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

If we hold these principles to be true, then we must petition the government that has fallen into the hands of special interests groups and elitists. It is become a self-evident truth that the ruling bureacracy has recruited our federal workers from all branches of the govenrment, abandoned their oaths of office, and are currently delinquent in their duties of serving the people.
Without the consent of the people, it is the right and the obligation of the people "to abolish it, and institute new government,laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
For that reason, I have petitioned this government and have called on you, partisans and nonpartisans, religionists or secularists, to do the same.
Keep our nation free from religious tryanny and religion free from political corruption.

Keep God in your heart, your religion in your place of worship, and your atheism in your personal sanctuary!

If people want Bible to be the driving force of their lives, they can do that in the privacy of their homes and in the sanctity of their churches. If you want to teach Bible to your children, do that in those places, and NOT in the schools!
As it is, we have fallen to the 26th place in the world in the quality of our education. We do not need another handicap to pull our children down even further.
Schools and legislative bodies are not the vehicles of any particular religion. Our Founding Fathers knew that very well, looking at what the Monarch being the Head of their Church did to the nation of England, and the wars, atrocities and torture it performed, including slavery.
You can choose to run your life based on faith that does not need logic as its cornerstone. When it comes to governing our nation, including our Judiciary, logic is, should and will be the cornerstone! There is no "if", "but" and "nevertheless" about it.

I would like to express my strong objection to HR 888, now being presented to the House, because it defies the Constitution by injecting a particular religion in the business of governing our nation. Separation of Church and the State is the fundamental tenet of our Constitution, and I urge you to hold it true to your heart, and true to your constituents. I feel this is a Trojan Horse attempt by religious extremists to bring Religion for Government sanction.
If this bill comes to the Senate for passage, I urge you to use the power of your vote, and your persuasive powers to urge other Senators, to defeat it and put it to pasture.

Sorry that I'm about 35 comments too late, I've been asleep, Saint Joseph gave his name to one helluva city!
Anyway I'm just gonna say simply, that I believe him. These people are monsters and they bastardize Christianity into something lesser than it is or should be. I wonder as I sit here, if these people even CARE about the fact that there are other religions out there that deserve equal representation. Whether they believe they are right or not shouldn't matter, if they're gonna teach Christian history affecting our country, then I want to hear how Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist Shinto, Taoist and Wiccan ALSO affected our country. But oh NO you won't hear them talk about that now will you, because they are "right"

and all of those religions/spiritual affinities are "wrong." I wonder, did it ever occur to them that THEIR religion is wrong? Now I'm a guy who believes in God and Jesus so that makes me a Christian, and I'm Catholic by birth, but that doesn't stop me from being outraged at this. Ehh, but NOOOOOO they never consider that THEY'RE wrong, everyone ELSE must be, never mind that others may think the same exact thing about Christianity. The problem is these imbiciles never THINK except for their own selfish selves.

Thanks for the alert Spade, this one had slipped by me. I have already been on the phone, sending emails, etc and getting friends & family alerted to this bill, even telling as many as possible in church this morning and doing what we need to get it pushed through.

I didn't mean to give ChefEOD a positive.
We all have the right to make mistakes.
However,some people care nothing about their fellow Americans, and so I have little respect for them.
I have even less respect for those like ChefEOD who are proud of their phony religiousity. One must really be blind to think they are doing the will of their savior, when their manner of living is mean-spirited.
How in God's name can some people actually believe Jesus would condone such conduct is beyond the realm of rational thought.
It is almost humorous to watch them boast about it. I would not want my children exposed to people like this or their teachings.
That is why the tide is shifting. The Huckster is now trying to convince the American people that he respects the rights of a diversified America and that he is not in favor of a national religion, though it is probably just the rhetoric of another "pious" politician.

Good grief! I hit the positive review icon.
You need to re-think your support Chef - this would be
a very bad choice for America.
A really interesting course I took years ago was the
study of "World Religions". It was a great class and
opened up all kinds of involved discussions. Most of the
discussions ended up being history lessons and how the
various faiths of our world affected the geo-political
world we live in. It was a valuable lesson.
Instructing our children in a particular faith in a
PUBLIC school - an absolute NO-NO - as it should be.

Why would you contact your Representatives and Senators to ask them to vote *for* something that simply promotes lies about the founding of this nation. The majority of "evangelical" self-proclaimed Christians would likely consider the founders of this country satanists (at worst) or pluralists (at best - said with a curse). They were Deists. It's possible that some framed that understanding of the universe in Christian clothes, but I still fail to understand why the same people decrying pluralism and interfaith discussion are the same people pushing to spread lies about the pluralist Deists who founded our country.

The Christian religion is not the only religion in America. It is really sad to think that some people always think their concept of God is the most supreme. America cannot stay a free nation if the people had to worship the same concept of God. No one on this earth knows what the creator looks like or any thing of him. We only have what man has written with too many centuries past for it to be always reliable. There fore he is described as nature's God. To be fair about teaching the bible in school we must also teach to other 99 thousand religions as well. Religion has become a money making Enterprise, like a corporation. Did not Jesus chased the money changers out of the temple?

Let me rephrase this. We only have what has been written by man's hand with too many centuries gone by for it to be reliable. Therefore, God is described as nature's God in the constitution. to be fair about teaching the bible in public school we would have to teach the other 99 thousand religions as well. Religion, has become a money making enterprise, like a corporation. Did not Jesus, chase the money changers out of the temple?
