HR Res 888 purports to support "education on America's history of religious faith." Editorial presents selected videos in support of legislation and against. Included in the article is a sample email calling on lawmakers to oppose the legislation on the grounds that it crosses the line respecting separation of church and state.

    I will repeat what I stated in the other thread:

    One of the great features of the great American experiment is that we are free to believe - or not believe - whatever we want.

    This resolution ignores the pluralism that is truly American. Period.

    BTW: I submitted the Email note posted on the site and sent it to my representative. I certainly have no right asking anyone else to do what I, myself, have not done.

    For those of us who want to take action and exercise our rights, you can simply paste the email and send it to your representative. The link to contact your rep is also provided on the webpage. Of course, you can also rewrite and submit your own message.

    And of course, anyone is free to oppose my position and post those comments here, as well. :~)

    Well what kind of politician or person is the "right kind of Christian" to get elected? Do we now have Christians that are more perfect than other Christians because of type of Church affiliation, ie are Southern Baptists more Christian than Methodists or Catholics etc, or is there a predetermined genetic disposition to become the "right kind of Christian" which naturally enables one, in a Darwinistic sense, to become a politician or a president?

    Spade thanks for the head up on this I will be contacting my representative to defeat this bill. America is a melting pot of all kinds of people some who believe and some who do not. We are taking a giant step backwards here.

        Today is the best day to demand the restoration of the constitution for which this government must rely upon to survive or for which this government must fall by the wayside, should it fail to exist for the people and by the people.

          If we hold these principles to be true, then we must petition the government that has fallen into the hands of special interests groups and elitists. It is become a self-evident truth that the ruling bureacracy has recruited our federal workers from all branches of the govenrment, abandoned their oaths of office, and are currently delinquent in their duties of serving the people.

          Without the consent of the people, it is the right and the obligation of the people "to abolish it, and institute new government,laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

          For that reason, I have petitioned this government and have called on you, partisans and nonpartisans, religionists or secularists, to do the same.

          Keep our nation free from religious tryanny and religion free from political corruption.

                    If people want Bible to be the driving force of their lives, they can do that in the privacy of their homes and in the sanctity of their churches. If you want to teach Bible to your children, do that in those places, and NOT in the schools!

                    As it is, we have fallen to the 26th place in the world in the quality of our education. We do not need another handicap to pull our children down even further.

                    Schools and legislative bodies are not the vehicles of any particular religion. Our Founding Fathers knew that very well, looking at what the Monarch being the Head of their Church did to the nation of England, and the wars, atrocities and torture it performed, including slavery.

                    You can choose to run your life based on faith that does not need logic as its cornerstone. When it comes to governing our nation, including our Judiciary, logic is, should and will be the cornerstone! There is no "if", "but" and "nevertheless" about it.

                    Sorry that I'm about 35 comments too late, I've been asleep, Saint Joseph gave his name to one helluva city!

                    Anyway I'm just gonna say simply, that I believe him. These people are monsters and they bastardize Christianity into something lesser than it is or should be. I wonder as I sit here, if these people even CARE about the fact that there are other religions out there that deserve equal representation. Whether they believe they are right or not shouldn't matter, if they're gonna teach Christian history affecting our country, then I want to hear how Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist Shinto, Taoist and Wiccan ALSO affected our country. But oh NO you won't hear them talk about that now will you, because they are "right"

                    Thanks for the alert Spade, this one had slipped by me. I have already been on the phone, sending emails, etc and getting friends & family alerted to this bill, even telling as many as possible in church this morning and doing what we need to get it pushed through.

                    The Christian religion is not the only religion in America. It is really sad to think that some people always think their concept of God is the most supreme. America cannot stay a free nation if the people had to worship the same concept of God. No one on this earth knows what the creator looks like or any thing of him. We only have what man has written with too many centuries past for it to be always reliable. There fore he is described as nature's God.                       Let me rephrase this. We only have what has been written by man's hand with too many centuries gone by for it to be reliable. Therefore, God is described as nature's God in the constitution. to be fair about teaching the bible in public school we would have to teach the other 99 thousand religions as well.
