Oh yes! Somebody (senator or congressman) said for us to look out for a "Gulf of Tonkin incident" sometime between about a month ago and the end of Dubbya's reign. He must be psychic. Ok, so far, we have Arabs on TV threatening Dubbya's life and we have Iranian gunboats provoking US warships. We really ought to keep a list of all of this. I have a feeling it's going to grow now. We are going to see spin on spin reporting.
To think, this is happening right before the election. Now, who would everybody vote for when all of this is going on?

That's great. So all it will take is 4 or 5 crazy Iranians
or people dressed as Iranians to set off an explosive and we
go into a war..
I seem to remember 40-50 Americans dressed as Indians who first tried that in 1774..
Oh yeah, then there was the German soldier who crossed the border and came back dressed like a Polish soldier so Hitler could have an excuse to attack Poland.
LBJ had 6 Israeli planes attack an American freighter in 1967
with fake Egyptian markings for who knows what reason...
WARS should not be started with rumors and heresay,
(like assassination setups) it should only be fought to protect Americans..PERIOD!
This is more like a case of us taunting them.
I don't see any Iranian battleships 5 miles off our coasts.
At least Kennedy dealt with evidence of true threats and a clear and present danger!
Right now Bush is our only clear and present danger.

Notice how as soon as the US is at the receiving end of aggression, this hate-America crowd starts in with all the conspiracy talk, and the Marxist prattle about going to war to make money.
When it comes to this sort of mental vomitus,
"I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused."

It is that kind of language that has put us in the hole we are now. Evoking threats only because we are "bigger" than you is complete non-sense.
I am sure this was an isolated incident that was carried out by a small group. I don't think the Iranian government would intentionally provoke US ships in such a way.

Bully's like THOMNH62 worry me. Iran hasn't attacked us in any way, yet he/she is already making threats. Our ships are hanging around their oil shipping routes. It's their oil & their oil shipping routes! Which part of this don't Bush, you & others comprehend? Again, "their" means the oil & the shipping routes are theirs, not ours to hang around in!

catstevens is correct. I was over there for the Iran/Irag war in '87 escorting merchant ships.
They messed with us then and got their a-holes handed to them. I saw quite a few boghammers (Iran gun boats) go down under willypete rounds (Phosphorus), plus got to see the airliner being blown from the sky.
That was a day I will always remember as we were escorting the USS Samuel B Roberts out of the Gulf after it hit a mine.

Didn't we do that to keep the gas prices below $1.50 and stable??
So much for that idea!
Presently we are an international disgrace that has made binLaden look like he should be listened to when he
claims how oppressive we have been. Their recruitment is getting stronger and now they have even gained strength in Afghanistan, where all of my Bush supporting friends used as an example of how we were winning. This is not my grandfather's America.
We never would have fought a war for big business and they never would have profited like the Carlyle Group, halliburton,
Exxon and many others that we don't even know..
NEVER!

Isn't phosphorus a chemical weapon that burns people? Do you mean the civilian airliner that was shot down? That must have been one glorious experience, indeed!

You mean the civilian airliner full of innocent men, women, and children. You got to see those people die? Awesome.
(no wonder the world hates us with dim lightbulbs like this one)

When it comes to the Iranian government, my 1st inclination is not to blame the US. I think those Iranian gunboats are lucky to have turned away. If I was a sailor on that American ship I would indeed remember the Cole and I might be just a bit trigger happy. Do you think it's possible that The Iranians have bellicose elements in their government - just like we do?
History shows us that governments bent on war are full of deceit, as mentioned in this thread. However, history has also shown that the Iranians do sponsor terrorism and that they are bellicose and do play games of brinkmanship. Is the administration lying to us? I don't know but unlike the Gulf of Tonkin, this is plausible and therefore can't be ignored. Lets be happy that no shots were fired and hope that this doesn't escalate.

If it's true that Iranians were poking the tiger in Hormuz like this, I'll take it as a sign that the Iranians haven't quite given up on the prophecy of Sahih Bukhari about the Jew hiding behind an object before the object blows his cover to the servant of Allah.

Before you write a letter of apology and offer to surrender to Iran, learn that The Strait of Hormuz is 21 miles wide at it's narrowest... only 3 miles of which is Iranian water.
Not exacty like "New York harbour".

slate, don't be so naive. This isn't the same event. This is called 'chicken'. ...and you're the kind, apparently, that would have taken the bait? I don't think so.
Elephants swat their tails at gnats. Cowards go after them to prove their courage.
During the cold war, fighters would take off in a southerly direction and make a quick U turn north. Some would return later with their tails shot up. Destroyers used to 'sit' over U boats until their estimated submerged time was almost expended. It's all in the game. So, what makes this news? Oh, could it be that it fits nicely with an agenda?

I'm skeptical of most Penagon releases. (Military Industrial Complex). These are the same people that brought you the Pat Tillman story, the rescue of Pvt. Lynch, ad nauseum.
Some one posted a little earlier: "This is war!". No it isn't. What reports has he been getting. No, this is a march to war on dubious charges. Oh yeah, I forgot. "Onward Christian Soldiers"...'marching as to war. With the cross of Jesus, going on before'....Sort of stirs the blood, doesn't it?

I don`t know who said it first, but there is a new name for that group of powerful elites that is very befitting their new status - the military-entertainment complex.
All the fun of war brought to your living room and children without any of the pain! Yee-haw let`s kick some arse!

you'd think people would be sick of war by now, but watch as this thread fills up with sideline cheerleaders. "Go USA! Get the bad guys! They shouldn't mess with us!' Let the bodies hit the floor, and sense go out the door..etc etc
War is by far the best spectator sport, because, compared to other games, being a spectator is just sooo much better than being a participant.

Take into account that we get NO TRUTH through our news agencies. They are still trying to win the hearts and minds of the people with this bullsh&t. They don't care that we KNOW about past false flag operations. They don't care that we KNOW THEY ARE LIARS. We are going to be forced to swollow this bite of the sh&t sandwich too. We may as well get ready to sacrifice our children to the dick cheny war machine. Thank the oil companies, the Federal Reserve and Halliburton for this mess. They make the billions, we eat the SH&T. This has been nothing but bullsh&t since 9/11. I support our troops...I support them walking out on this one and coming home.

Easy now. We don't need another Gulf of Tonkin. We don't need another way either so let's use some common sense before we react. So oil spiked again on this catastrophe. My god, it seems if someone in the Middle East blows their gd nose oil goes up. We are being ripped off and our economy is going doen the tubes. Will any of the politicians running for office be able to put a stop to this crime?

Harbeas: "So oil spiked again on this catastrophe."
Just imagine how much money you could make if you knew ahead of time when oil prices would spike, so you could buy and sell based on that knowledge. Buy before it goes up and sell when it peaks.
Now wouldn't it be even better if you could actually control those spikes? An incident occurs --> price goes up; no, it's nothing after all --> price goes down. That would be a good game, wouldn't it? It could be played the other way too: oil spikes, you sell; you defuse the situation --> oil drops, you buy it back again.
Finally, wouldn't it be wonderful if you could repeat this cycle a large number of times?

Citing various military sources, BBC reporter Frank Gardner said the Australians had pointed their guns at the Iranians and used "colourful language" to defuse the incident.
Commodore Gilmore said: "As Australians, I think we all know our capacity to engage, to defuse by discussion and they indeed did that."
Haha I love how those two lines are after eachother. Commodore Gilmore does a great job of dressing up the "discussion" he and his sailors had with the Iranians.
Aussies kick ass lol RIP Steve Irwin, the best Aussie to ever live.

I knew my comment would bring the lefties out screaming like babies that it is all our fault, so anti.trust calm down and stop complaining like a little girl. The US is not perfect but when there are disasters around the world who cleans them up, we should be proud of our country, it does not mean we have to like the current admin I think Bush has failed us, but don't forget the aspirin factory. We have a mixed record throughout history bur if we don't do something soon Iran and perhaps an Osama Bin Laden led Pakistan will wipe Isreal off the face of the earth and you won't see it coming until the morning news.

By the way, according to you 71% of the country is "lefty"..
You had better try to become more inclusive of open minded thought or soon you'll be in the 25% minority...
Yeah, they even count the uneducated south in their polls (unfortunately)
