Sitting on the southeastern shores of Nova Scotia is a place called Halifax. Located in the Great White North, you might expect the few residents who aren't hockey fans to support a "local" baseball team in the Toronto Blue Jays. Not so. According to the Toronto Star, Halifax is officially part of Red Sox Nation.

I heard this on the news the other day and thought it was an amazing gesture... There is a very close bond between Halifax and Boston that dates back to the 'Halifax Explosion'

Below is an excerpt from the story link:

News of the disaster reached Boston the same morning. That very night a train loaded with supplies, together with medical personnel and members of the Public Safety Committee, left for Halifax. Help poured in from all over Canada and many parts of the world, with the continuing generosity of Massachusetts unforgettable. Each Christmas the huge tree that glitters in Prudential Plaza in Boston is a thank-you gift from the people of Nova Scotia.

this was a nice gesture. halifax and boston do have a close relationship. and i don't see nothing weird about the nova scotians cheering for the bo-sox. boston is a hell of a lot closer to nova scotia. i grew up in s.w.ontario, and cheered for the bruins when i was young. (the years of bobby orr). ( i'm a detroit red wings fan, now) shhh!

thanks for the link to the "halifax explosion" rinty. i've read up a lot about this, and it explains why the nova scotians, and massachusettians, have such a close bond.
