As n engineer in a high tech field. I cannot trust electronic voting machines to be reliable. They are too easily hacked and prone to malfunction. The only correct machines for honesty are the old fashioned mechanical lever types. after the machines then the electronics is OK since all results can be verified without the chance of hacking. The lever machine can be observed mutually by all candidates and/or their representatives that they are indeed working!

How about one that actually tallies the vote as it is placed and confirmed. That can be viewed by the voter who could have a signaling device if the vote was incorrect.

Now I know it could show one candidate and go to another. Still it is better than what we have. Now I'm no electronics genius. But with all the business that is conducted electronically daily. You'd think we could come up with a way to confirm each transaction as we do banking transactions. Far more of those happen daily than any votes.

If the electronic bankers can do it surely the electronic voting machines can be watched and certified. Take them away from diebold the liars. I still want a paper backup.

      Thanks engineer.

We need more checks and balances. Verification of counts at random polling places by independent auditors with all parties represented would be a step in the right direction.

Too often I've noticed that the exit polls are correct for all races except the national ones or the top post like governor. Why would people lie to the pollsters about their top choice only? The only way this makes sense is if the actual counts are off, either by error or purpose. It worries me greatly (cont'd)

When the president of Diebold said publicly that he would make sure bush won, I lost all faith in the machines and the integrity of the whole process. I now feel that voting is just an illusion that is perpetuated to keep us believing that we have a stake in the decision. The reality is that the corporations have already bought who they want. Our voices mean nothing.

Finally after what? 50 some odd years? NY is finally gonna get some state-ofthe-art electronic voting machines? As a BOE worker this I gotta see! Thanx engineer!

Have no faith in Diebold, or any other electronic voting machines without accountability and verification of every vote.
